The Abraham Temple (Hebrew: אברהם מקדש, romanized: ʾbrhm mqdš; Arabic: معبد ابراهيم, romanized: Maʻbad Ibrāhīm) is a Jewish synagogue located in Gaza, in the State of Palestine.[1]
History
[edit]A building was converted[2] into a synagogue during the Israeli invasion of Gaza as part of the 2023 Israel–Hamas war. The synagogue provided a way for soldiers of the IDF to pray amidst their invasion into Gaza.[3]
Before the establishment of the synagogue, soldiers prayed in the Gaza synagogue, which was established in 508 during the time of the Byzantine empire.[4][5] For two decades the Gaza synagogue was closed and Jews were not allowed to worship at the holy site.[6]
