The Kvinde 1. division or Danish Women's 1st Division is the second-highest division of women's football in Denmark.

Format

Until and including the 2006–07 season, the 1st Division used to comprise 12 teams in a single group, who would play a double round-robin tournament, each team playing each other twice, once home and once away. The champion was directly promoted to the Women's League, called Elitedivisionen at the time. The runner-up played a promotion game against the second worst placed team of the Elitedivisionen for a spot in the next season of Elitedivisionen. Meanwhile, the two worst ranked teams were relegated to 2nd Division, known as Women's Denmark Series at the time.

In the 2007–08 season, the 1st Division was reduced to 10 teams.

From the 2013–14 season until the 2019–20, the 1st Division comprised 16 teams, divided into two groups, East and West, of eight teams each. The two highest ranked teams in each group play in the Women's League (formerly Elitedivisionen) qualification league together with the four lowest-ranked teams of the Elitedivisionen. The top two teams in the qualification league are promoted to the Elitedivisionen.

In the 2020–21 season, the 1st Division contained 20 teams, split into four groups of five, each playing a double roun-robin tournament. The top two teams of each group advanced to promotion qualifiers, split into two groups of four. A total of four teams advanced to the qualification league. The remaining 12 teams played a relegation play-off, consisting of two groups of six teams each.

Starting with the 2021–2022 season, the 1st Division consists of 8 teams playing in a double round-robin tournament, with home and away games.^[1] The teams that finish in the top four spots play in the qualification league together with the two worst ranked teams the Women's League to determine two promotion spots. The four bottom placed teams instead play against the two top placed teams in each of the 2nd Division groups in a 1st division qualification league. The two bottom placed teams from the 1st division qualification league are relegated to the 2nd Division. Both qualification leagues are again played as double round-robin tournaments among the six participating teams.^[2]
