Summary

Description
English: French map depicting Indochina and the areas designated as the "French zone of influence" in eastern Siam, in accordance with the Anglo-French Declaration of 1896 and subsequent Entente Cordiale in 1904. According to the agreement, Britain and France agreed to preserve the independence of Siam and respect its territorial integrity within the Menam (Chao Phraya) river basin. Areas east of the basin then ruled by Siam, including what is now Thailand's Isan region, were deemed to be within the French zone of influence, which France saw as within its rights to annex into French Indochina.
