Description
English: Portrait of Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach as Crown Princess of Prussia, wearing the ribbon of the Order of the Red Eagle of Prussia. In July 1853 Queen Victoria commissioned to Franz Xaver Winterhalter a portrait of Princess Augusta, who was one of the Sponsors at the christening of Victoria’s son, Prince Leopold. That oval portrait is still in the Royal Collection, while this rectangular version is an autograph reply painted in the same year. In this second version the painter added a nosegay on the Princess' right shoulder.
