English: Californians March in New York Celebrating Suffrage Victory
A FEATURE of the recent suffrage parade and demonstration in New York city was the delegation of California women m the procession, bearing banners of triumph over their victory last October. As the sixth state to extend the franchise to women. California came in for a large share of New York's interest during the parade, and the California women were cheered. Probably for the first time many resident- of the eastern metropolis saw the historic bearflag of the California republic, depicting the grizzly en route across a field of green and white. Another banner showed the state seal, portraying the grizzly in a more temperate mood, seated at the feet of the queen of the Pacific. Several of the pennants bore figures to show the strength of the suffrage movement in California and these were applauded heartily by the eastern states. -San Francisco Call, 15 May 1912
