Description
English: The Great Refractor of the Astrophysical Observatory Potsdam (AOP), Germany, was finished in 1899. It consists of two refracting telescopes in a common tube: a photographic instrument with an aperture of 80 cm and a focal length of 12.2 m, and a visual telescope with an aperture of 50 cm and focal length of 12.5 m. The Optics were made by Steinheil (Munich) the mechanics by Repsold (Hamburg). The telescope and it's dome were renovated in 1986-2005.
Deutsch: Der große Refraktor des Astrophysikalischen Observatoriums Potsdam (AOP) wurde 1899 fertiggestellt. Er besteht aus zwei Refraktoren, die in einem gemeinsamen Tubus eingebaut sind: Ein fotografisches Instrument mit 80 cm Öffnung und 12,2 m Brennweite, und ein visuelles Teleskop mit 50 cm Öffnung und 12,5 m Brennweite. Die Optik stammt von Steinheil (München) und die Mechanik von Repsold (Hamburg). Das Teleskop und das umgebende Kuppelgebäude wurden in den Jahren 1986-2005 renvoriert.
