Attributed to Mary Jane Simes (American, 1807-1872). Gouache on ivory portrait miniature of Josiah Bayly second quarter-19th century; Josiah Bayly (1769-1846) was born in Somerset County, MD and held numerous political offices in Maryland including Attorney General 1831-46; mounted in gilt locket frame, with gilt-shadowbox frame, miniature - 2 3/4 x 2 in. total size; shadowbox frame - 5 1/2 x 5 in. Other Notes: Pertinent information on verso, painting descended through family of consignor. Mary Jane Simes was granddaughter of James Peale.
