Description

"Preparing ramie fiber for weaving", Image 35, from The Story of Ramie From Seed to Finished Garment. This five volume, brocade-bound set of 62 Chinese watercolor paintings was collected by Sidney and Mildred Edelstein. The watercolors show, in chronological order, the process of producing Ramie cloth, a silk-like fabric, in China during the 1820s. The collection is accompanied by a transcription of hand-written text, describing the steps in Ramie cloth production.

Each individual watercolor is framed with silk borders and displayed in five brocade-bound volumes. The watercolors are grouped as follows:

  • 01:11.021A - Volume 1 - Image 1-12
  • 01:11.021B - Volume 2 - Image 13-25
  • 01:11.021C - Volume 3 - Image 26-34
  • 01:11.021D - Volume 4 - Image 35-46
  • 01:11.021E - Volume 5 - Image 47-58
