English: The steamship Matteawan, originally Asturian Prince, was built in 1893 for the Prince Steam Shipping Co of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. In 1895 the Miami Steamship Co acquired her and renamed her Matteawan. During the Spanish-American War the US Government chartered her as a troop ship. In 1900 the Saginaw Steamship Co acquired her. In December 1901 she left Nanaimo, British Columbia, carrying coal bound for San Francisco. She was last sighted off Cape Flattery, Washington during a storm. She was reported missing and presumed sunk.
