These Lands & Survey photographs show the New Zealand Wars site of the battle of Te Ranga, 21 June 1864. On the left are the deep gullies that limited the British attack, but also made escape difficult. In the distance of the middle image you can see the location of the Historic Places Trust memorial and the location of rifle pits.
