English: Examples of two modern radiosondes showing how companies are making their sondes smaller and improving facilities and sensor accuracy. The Graw DFM 17 (left) has a heated humidity sensor and contactless initialisation, while the earlier model DFM 09 (right) has a connector bay and unheated sensor. For both sondes, a radio using SDR (software defined radio) techniques is employed (top) allowing rapid updates to firmware, encryption and other tasks and transmission of data over tcpip/ethernet.
