Gregorio II Boncompagni
Don Gregorio II Boncompagni (7 July 1642 – 1 January 1707) was an Italian nobleman, 5th Duke of Sora, Aquino, Arce and Arpino and 6th Marquess of Vignola and Prince Consort of Piombino, Marquis of Populonia, Prince of Venosa and Count of Conza, Lord di Scarlino, Populonia, Vignale, Abbadia del Fango, Suvereto, Buriano, Cerboli e Palmaiolan, and Lord prince of the Tuscan Archipelago including the islands of Elba, Montecristo, Pianosa, Gorgona, Capraia, and Isola del Giglio. He was the great-great-grandson of Pope Gregory XIII.
Biography
[edit]He was the eldest son of Don Ugo I Boncompagni, 4th Duke of Sora, Aquino, Arce and Arpino and 5th Marquess of Vignola, and wife Duchess Donna Maria Ruffo di Bagnara.
He married firstly in 1666 Giustina Gallio di Como (29 October 1644 – 21 July 1679), daughter of Tolomeu Gallio di Como, Duke of Alvito, by whom he had an only son, Don Boncompagno Tolomeo Boncompagni (19 December 1667 - 19 February 1668), and then, when she died, he married secondly Ippolita Ludovisi (24 December 1663 - 29 December 1733), Princess of Piombino, on 19 October 1681.[1] The Boncompagni-Ludovisi union lasted until the French Revolution and included the development of the Archivio Boncompagni-Ludovisi held by The Vatican.[2]
Gregorio and Ippolita had seven children:

- Donna Maria Eleonora I Boncompagni-Ludovisi (10 April 1686 - 5 January 1745), Princess of Piombino, etc, married on 29 March 1702 her paternal uncle, Gregorio's brother Don Antonio I Boncompagni-Ludovisi (10 April 1658 - 28 January 1731), 6th Duke of Sora, Aquino, Arce and Arpino, 7th Marquess of Vignola, Prince Consort of Piombino, etc, and had issue
- Donna Costanza Boncompagni-Ludovisi (6 September 1687 – 6 February 1768), married in 1705 Vincenzo Giustiniani, Prince of Bassano
- Donna Maria Teresa Boncompagni-Ludovisi (27 February 1692 – 7 June 1744), married in 1714 Urbano Barberini, Prince of Palestrina
- Donna Giulia Boncompagni-Ludovisi (22 January 1695 – 3 November 1751), married in 1714 Marco Ottoboni, Duke of Fiano
- Donna Anna Maria Boncompagni-Ludovisi (21 January 1696 – 11 January 1752), married Gian Vincenzo Salviati, Duke of Giuliano
- Donna Lavinia Boncompagni-Ludovisi (22 December 1697 - 20 April 1773), married in 1723 Don Marino Caracciolo (22 February 1696 - 1 July 1747), Prince of San Buono
