The Ambassador of Sweden to Peru (known formally as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Peru) is the official representative of the government of Sweden to the president of Peru and government of Peru.

History

[edit]

Both countries established diplomatic relations in the 1930s[1][2][3] and maintained diplomatic missions in both Lima and Stockholm.

In 1956, an agreement was reached between the Swedish and Peruvian governments on the mutual elevation of the respective countries' legations to embassies. The diplomatic rank was thereafter changed to ambassador instead of envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary.[4]

The Swedish embassy in Lima was closed in 2001 but reopened in 2016[2] and the embassy of Peru in Stockholm was closed in 2010 but reopened in 2012.[1][5] The Swedish embassy closed again in 2022.[6] Since 2023, the Swedish ambassador in Santiago, Chile has a dual accreditation to Lima.
