Maemo Leste

Maemo Leste is a free and open-source mobile operating system,[1] as a mobile Linux distribution. It's based on Devuan[2] plus Maemo components, for smartphones, tablets and electronic devices.[3] It's totally independent of Android.

History

Initiated in 2018 by Ivan Jelincic and Merlijn Wajer,[4] the project aims to reuse the Maemo components, toward the most FOSS environment.[5] It's public are the OSS communities.

Funding

MaemoLeste is partly financed by the EU funds NGI,[6] and NLNet.[7]

Functioning

MaemoLeste is based on Devuan, with mainline kernel ; it's used with the Hildon GUI, to bring back users the Maemo 5 "Fremantle" experience.[8]
