Maemo Leste

Maemo Leste is a free and open-source mobile operating system,^[1] as a mobile Linux distribution. It's based on Devuan^[2] plus Maemo components, for smartphones, tablets and electronic devices.^[3] It's totally independent of Android.

Initiated in 2018 by Ivan Jelincic and Merlijn Wajer,^[4] the project aims to reuse the Maemo components, toward the most FOSS environment.^[5] It's public are the OSS communities.

MaemoLeste is partly financed by the EU funds NGI,^[6] and NLNet.^[7]

MaemoLeste is based on Devuan, with mainline kernel ; it's used with the Hildon GUI, to bring back users the Maemo 5 "Fremantle" experience.^[8]
