Rana Maqbool Ahmad (1 November 1948 – 12 September 2023) was a Pakistani politician who was a Member of the Senate of Pakistan from March 2018 until his death.
Political career
[edit]Ahmad was nominated by Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) as its candidate in 2018 Pakistani Senate election.[1] However, the Election Commission of Pakistan declared all PML-N candidates for the Senate election as independent after a ruling of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.[2]
Ahmad was elected to the Senate of Pakistan as an independent candidate on general seat from Punjab in Senate election.[3][4] He was backed in the election by PML-N[5] and joined the treasury benches, led by PML-N after getting elected.[6] He took oath as Senator on 12 March 2018.[7]
Rana Maqbool Ahmad is also a retired Pakistani police officer who served as Inspector General of Sindh Police (IGSP). Rana Maqbool also served as Special Secretary Prosecution Punjab during different tenures of the PML-N.
Rana Maqbool Ahmed had close ties with PML-N and has a school named after him in Samnabad, Lahore [8]
Death
[edit]Rana Maqbool Ahmad died on 12 September 2023, at the age of 72.[9] (previous article stated 2021 which is incorrect sir Rana Maqbool Ahmed god rest his soul passed away on the 12th of September 2023.
