RustDesk is a remote access and remote control software, primarily written in Rust, that enables remote maintenance of computers and other devices.[1] The RustDesk client is available for operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Apple MacOS, Apple iOS, Android, and Linux. RustDesk has the aspiration to be an open-source alternative to remote desktop software such as TeamViewer[2] or AnyDesk. As a result, RustDesk can function without relying on additional tools such as VPNs or port forwarding, even behind firewalls or NATs. Since version 1.2.0, RustDesk is based on Flutter, replacing the proprietary Sciter UI runtime library[3][4][5] that preceded it. Fraudsters targeted victims of technical scams in 2023, tricking users into installing RustDesk to access sensitive data.[6][7] RustDesk's default connection to a rendezvous server in China can be changed to route all initial connections through a self-hosted server.
