Schneps Media is a New York City-based media company founded in 1985 that owns and operates both print and online news services.[1][2][3] Their first newspaper was The Queens Courier. The company's flagship publication since 2019 has been amNewYork Metro, a free daily newspaper. The New York Times wrote in 2019 that Schneps publishes "more than 50 newspapers and magazines". They also have a unit named Schneps Media Events that operates seminars and conferences.
History
[edit]In October 2019 they acquired amNewYork from Newsday Media Group.[4] Three months later they acquired Metro New York, merging the two papers under the current amNewYork Metro title.[5] The purchase also included Metro Philadelphia, which continues to operate.[5]
In May 2024, the company acquired Anton Media Group.[6] In July that same year the company acquired Blank Slate Media.[7]
Controversies
[edit]The company was criticized in 2019 for their involvement in One Brooklyn, a free mailing by then-Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams, described by Gothamist as "full of glowing stories about the borough president".[5][8] Former Schneps reporters told Gothamist that "the Schneps owners forced them to write sponsored content, while shielding advertisers and local officials from critical coverage."[5]
