Is there any reason that MW links to AM as opposed to the Mediumwave article? Ditto for VHF and FM. Frenchwhale 19:30, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Technology vs. Commercial services

[edit]

We need to distinguish between broadcasting technologies/systems (DAB/DRM/SDR/DVB-SH/...) and commercial services using these or other technologies, e.g. WorldSpace (using SDR) + another technology in L band, Sirius using proprietary technology in S band, etc. 24.81.130.107 11:02, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Big edit of 2007-09-10

[edit]

I made some pretty big changes today, because I felt we still couldn't get a good grip on the split between terrestrial and satellite systems and also satellite broadcast technology vs. providers of satellite radio. Changes I made include:

  1. removed using the abbreviation DAB for Digital Audio Broadcasting other than the system used in L-band/VHF. It's very confusing for people who don't follow audio broadcasting
  2. removed link to Perceptual Audio Coding (PAC) for 2 reasons:
    1. PAC is a part of both AAC and Musicam
    2. PAC entry is close to empty as of today
  3. removed FSS, because they are low-power satellites mostly not intended for broadcasting to listeners
  4. removed DBS since this term is used almost exclusively in connection with satellite TV broadcasting
  5. satellite radio broadcast uses S band, not C band
