'Valleys' stations

[edit]

I'm not sure if Caldicot, Chepstow and the like can be described as "valleys stations". I suggest a reorganisation to reflect Network Rail's definition of the different routes - South Wales Valleys (Route 13), South & Central Wales and Borders (14) and Great Western (15).[1][2] Pondle (talk) 21:50, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New colours

[edit]

The latest version of the official map has assigned a dark blue to Ebbw Vale. The other colours have been tweaked, some are duplicated because they appear that way on the map itself. 81.110.104.91 (talk) 17:27, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sources for Valley Lines

[edit]

Lines have since been added. Here are three sources Arriva Trains Wales, Project Mapping and National Rail. Simply south...... wearing fish for just 6 years 18:55, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I was going by the lower of the two maps at Arriva Trains Wales (PDF download; lo-res JPEG). That shows the Maesteg and Cheltenham routes as a brown line   and the Ebbw Vale route as a dark blue line  ; both of these are as broad as the routes to e.g. Rhymney   or Merthyr  . Compare them to the routes to Port Talbot, Neath and Swansea; and to The North, Bristol and London which are shown as a thinner grey line  . The PDF download shows "Valleys & Cardiff Local Routes" at the top. Both this title and the line style suggest to me that Arriva Wales consider both the Ebbw Vale and Maesteg-Cheltenham services as part of the group which includes the Valleys routes. The PDF map is current: not only is it on the present website, but it states at the very bottom "Display until 31 December 2013"; and in the legend box is the date code "ATW v13 01.12" - Arriva Trains Wales, version 13, January 2012. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:06, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I don't see why the Ebbw Valley line should be exempt. It's not a national service, it's a regional one and should be treated as such. The editor who reverted has a history of making similar edits, attempting to distance the Ebbw Valley Line from Cardiff's rail network. Welshleprechaun 20:03, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am probably going to completely contradict myself but looking at the Wales RUS (2008), only the Maesteg Line is included. Which source to trust? Simply south...... walking into bells for just 6 years 14:45, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, since it's dated November 2008 (first and last pages), i.e. nine months after the reintroduction of passenger services to Ebbw Vale, that makes it more than three years older than the Arriva Wales map. I'd go with current information. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:55, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cardiff & Valleys Local Routes is entirely separate to both the Maesteg Line and Ebbw Valley Line. ATW produce timetables that show them as clearly separate. Owain (talk) 16:55, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

They also produce a map which clearly groups them together. --Redrose64 (talk) 17:51, 13 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and that map also shows all the stations from Cardiff Central to Cheltenham. This does not make them part of the Valleys Lines either. Network Rail has Route classifications — in which the South Wales Valleys form Route 15 and the Western Valley Line is indicated as a branch of Route 13 (Great Western). I've contact ATW and they confirmed that the Maesteg and Ebbw Vale lines are part of the Valley Lines network. Simply south...... walking into bells for just 6 years 21:25, 24 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A private email is not a WP:V source. Published material contradicts this anyway. Owain (talk) 07:42, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The latest Network Rail Route Specification (2011, Wales) lists Newport—Ebbw Vale (L.17), South Wales Valleys (L.18) and Bridgend—Maesteg (L.19) as separate routes. Owain (talk) 08:46, 25 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
