Template talk:Huns

Who goes on this template

[edit]

We currently have a number of people on this template that are identified as Huns in Byzantine sources - however, these Huns were not necessarily the same Huns as fought under Attila and it's unclear if they had any connection to them. Should this template be reserved for people who are Huns proper, or do we include North Caucasian Huns and various other "Scythians" who modern scholars sometimes call Huns?--Ermenrich (talk) 19:26, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ermenrich: Hmm... the navbox already includes "Other Hunnic peoples". So we can have two separate sections/groups for those people: a) the ones who are related to Attila b) the other Huns. The navbox better remains as a general template for all Huns because those other Hunnic peoples could be interesting for the readers who want to know more about Hunnic topics. --Mann Mann (talk) 08:35, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We don’t currently include anyone not a European or south Caucasian Hun though, Mann Mann - if we create a section for south Caucasian Huns isn’t it just a matter of time before all the names Huna, for instance, get added in a section too? Is the template still useful then?—Ermenrich (talk) 13:27, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I don't really know what to do with them. When I created this navbox (first revision), my concern was just Attila's Huns. It's better that you and other users who edit Hunnic topics decide about expanding/revising this template. Because as I said before, I just visit this template sometimes and it's not in my watchlist and backlog. --Mann Mann (talk) 14:59, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
