Flags

[edit]

It has been agreed that flags would not be included in the squads. You can see the discussion here [1]. Doctorhawkes (talk) 00:43, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Doctorhawkes and MarshallWT: Could the two of you attempt to discuss the changes here instead of edit warring? If need be, ask for a third opinion to help settle the dispute. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 01:32, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You can see in the edit history that I've tried a number of times without response. I also left a link above to the consensus at Project Rugby League and attempted discussion on their talk page. I'm not sure how a 3rd opinion will help, but I'm willing to try. Doctorhawkes (talk) 11:40, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I can also see that the template was protected to stop the edit war but you two kept going on. This page only as one entry, so no constructive discussion. But you need two to tango. The most annoying thing is that you restore a version with link to disambiguation page, that will be fixed then. And chop, back again. Not only is the edit war disruptive, restoring the links to dab-pages is also disruptive. The Banner talk 12:28, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To be clear, I haven't restored a version with a link to a disambig page. Request for 3rd opinion has failed. I'll see if I can get anyone else to comment.Doctorhawkes (talk) 08:45, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am not interested in the blame game. Just start a meaningful discussion about the issue. Or go after rougher measures. But an edit war can only exist with two or more parties. The Banner talk 11:55, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

About the Third Opinion request: The request made at Third Opinion has been removed (i.e. declined). Like all other moderated content dispute resolution venues at Wikipedia, Third Opinion requires thorough talk page discussion before seeking assistance. If an editor will not discuss, consider the recommendations which are made here or consider a request for comments which requires little or no discussion. — TransporterMan (TALK) 20:23, 10 January 2023 (UTC) This is an informational posting only and I am not watching this page; contact me on my user talk page if you wish to communicate with me about this.[reply]

I'll repeat what I've previously said about flags in templates - "Personally I'd prefer to get rid of them altogether. The sport's representation rules are so difficult that trying to work out if a flag is actual nationality, nation they have represented, or nation they are qualified to appear for, and trying to represent this with an icon is just something we shouldn't bother with. Representation is best done in text. Flags are never going to cover things like players who have, for example, already represented a tier 1 nation but have now chosen to represent a tier 2 nation. Also I question the relevance of who they are representing in a template relating to their domestic club. Just because MOS:SPORTSFLAG says flags can be used doesn't mean they have to be used." As Doctorhawkes has pointed out, there has been clear consensus to remove flags from the NRL current squad templates across all 17 teams. @MarshallWT: is welcome to join this discussion after reading the previous discussion about this issue. The other point to make about the flags is the template's utility is already formatting badly on the mobile version without the flags, with the flags it is even worse. As stated above, there has already been a consensus in removing flags from current squad templates. I'd also like to point out that each time the page has been reverted back with the flags shown, the information presented has been inaccurate (even as of this moment) and disambiguation links have continued to be re-added, replacing the redirects which had already been in place prior. Again

[edit]

The whole flag-saga was restarted today. A report on AIV was dismissed, they seem to think he was no vandal. Anyone prepared to bring this to AN/I? The Banner talk 19:33, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
