Template talk:Plots and conspiracies

New template

[edit]

@Micga, Paine Ellsworth, 180app, Braganza, Minoa, Smeagol 17, P4p5, PalauanLibertarian, Aonadh nan Gaidheal, and Omnipaedista: Kind regards. As discussed at Template talk:Coup d'état#Moldova and Germany, I have been able to start a template focused only in plots in conspiracies that did not come into fruition, and was pleasingly surprised that there were quite many articles to include them (as well as way more many plans to kidnap monarchs than I imagined).

First, I wanted to invite you to take a look at the current entries included to avoid any possible mistake or original research. The scope's is another thing: and plots and conspiracies included are supposed to be only related to the overthrow or replacement of an authority, but Category:Conspiracies includes many other goals, including but not limited to such as secession, influencing a military conflict or changing policies. It's up for the community if the scope should be wider.

However, I feel it's also important to maintain a high bar to prevent original research. Just as there is currently a bar for coups per WP:COUP and other reasons, I believe there should be one for these plans, which can be determined by indictments, evidence and consensus by scholars. This is specially important in the current century, where there are many autocracies that seek scapegoats. A conspiracy is different from a conspiracy theory.

Feel free to let me know about any other thoughts you might have about the template. Cheers! NoonIcarus (talk) 00:03, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good to me! In any case, as more entries are added, perhaps a naming format like the one used in the other template can be adopted, i.e. from "2023 Moldovan coup d'état attempt allegations" to "Moldova (2023)". 180app (talk) 00:18, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
