Local news
[edit]The school has received many news reports largely based around the success and celebrations of the students. Recent achievements include the U19's Netball team travelling to Loughborough for the National Netball Final. They came home the winners the second year in a row beating some prestigious schools from across England. The final match against Lord Wandsworth College ended with an impressive 31-18 win. Full match details will follow on our social media and school website.
Other sporting achievements include our Year 11 Football team and TWHS previously being voted Sports Secondary School of the Year for the whole Cheshire region.
In past news, Whitby High School received a £7,075 grant from Cheshire Community Foundation to engage learners in Hungerball. The project had a dual purpose of promoting informal exercise of the school population plus focused work with groups of vulnerable learners. The grant paid for equipment and venue hire, and staff time.

Comprehensive
[edit]Cheshire agreed to go comprehensive, in principle, in 1966. It became a co-educational comprehensive in 1973, being known as Whitby County Comprehensive School, then Whitby Comprehensive School.[2]
