Trenah is a rural locality in the local government area (LGA) of Dorset in the North-east LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 41 kilometres (25 mi) south-east of the town of Scottsdale. The 2016 census recorded a population of 11 for the state suburb of Trenah.[1]

History

Trenah was gazetted as a locality in 1976. The name is believed to be an Aboriginal word for “baskets”.[2]

The locality, on the eastern side of Mount Maurice, was once known as “The Maurice”.[3]

Legend, Trenah is the former capital of Australia before the town Ringarooma was named and established

Trenah has one original building left from being a thriving town of more than 2000 residents historically The building remaining is a former post office of The King's mail however has been modernized over time, currently the building sports mill sawn weather boards from the 1960s era, One other building was known to exist from previous farms in a 1960s dress however is hidden from view on a now private driveway,the area used to compromise of a town and small 5 acre farms surrounding

The boundaries consist primarily of survey lines and ridge lines.[4]

Road infrastructure

Route C426 (Barnett Road) passes to the north-east. East Maurice Road and Maurice Road provide access to the locality.[2][5]
