Image deletion nomination
[edit]Hi. There is not really much point in posting your image deletion nominations on the project talk pages as those who are interested in such matter have a suitable alert page, such as this one where the nominations show up. Also, some projects do not assess files, such as the Philately project while the Ireland project does not find it useful; of the 40,000+ project banners only 56 images have the project tags and several are rather recent by anonIP editors like yourself who may believe you are helping but in this case it is not constructive. If you want to be involved in project assessment perhaps you would become a registered editor and join the appropriate project and consult the assessment criteria in order to ensure the banners you add are appropriately done. Your editing energy is appreciated but perhaps you can use it to add content to articles to improve them. Good luck. ww2censor (talk) 10:12, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, they do not show up on that page, because they are not FFDs. (indeed, you should have noticed that the posted notices have not shown up at the Article Alerts page at all) Also, they only show up in that automated list if they are tagged with the Wikiproject Banner or if files are properly categorized under an Ireland category tree. That is because the Article Alerts bot uses the project banner to determine which projects to inform of deletion nominations. As PUFs and Speedy Deletions are not listed by the bot, they do not show up on that list. Also, at WT:FFD, it was determined it was a good thing to do to inform the related Wikiprojects whenever a file comes up for deletion that is potentially under their purview.
- If you believe that properly formatting and attributing images, and filling out their missing information pages, in their file descriptions is a waste of time, that's your opinion.
- And some of the other projects have expressed welcome and gratitude for being informed, and fixing the problems with the file page information. So, I will just discontinue informing WPIRELAND of any future deletions then. I will also discontinue fixing Ireland-related files.
- -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 11:04, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- You are in fact correct about the article alert pages: images do need the banner to appear there, so maybe my suggestion was not entirely accurate. BTW, the Ireland project has long ago given up using the WPIRELAND tag but uses {{WikiProject Ireland}} instead. If the images are FFD but not project tagged it may indeed be a good idea to let the project know. Fixing Irish related, and other project, files is a good idea but tagging them with the project banner makes little useful sense to some. I noticed that at least one project appreciates your work. We do too, but within the parameters of the project's assessment criteria. Thanks for your work. ww2censor (talk) 18:38, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hello,
Jimbo has requested that people not post on his talk page until July 21. I respectfully request that you honor his reasonable request, and post your concerns elsewhere until then. Thank you very much. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:34, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- It said that anything posted there would not be read on until July 21. That's fine by me. It's a note to Jimbo. -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 04:35, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
- Perhaps you misunderstood. Jimbo asked that nothing be posted on his talk page until July 21, and also posted a convenient list of alternate places to raise such issues in the interim. Thanks again. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:44, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:
- Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
- With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.
This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Speedy deletion nomination of Charles Windsor (disambiguation)
[edit]A tag has been placed on Charles Windsor (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
- disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - When did Council's proposal process break? (I've noticed several non-proposed WikiProjects have gotten dumped to MfD recently though) -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 08:17, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

- damned edit conflicts, roll on flow...
- I thought I saw a page/heading with americas all in caps it might have preceded your editing, sorry about that
- As for council - the page has looksed messy and unmaintained for ages...
- be sure to let the south american and north american projects know you are forging ahead with the america project - it is a very valid 'umbrella project' which is why asia was created - it makes a whole lot of categories and component projects fit better along side each other... and overall helps organisation and scope issues of sister and child projects - so it is very valid, more poweer to you - I just find stretching too far into too many projects an issue...sats 08:25, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- damned edit conflicts, roll on flow...
- you should get a user name btw sats 08:26, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, I just got round to informing them that someone proposed Americas for creation, then I find out that it's already been created, so I was poking around it. As the shortcut for the project page already existed, I just matched the talk page for it (as per other projects). As for building it out, I'm not sure about that, there's a Mexican user who seems to despise users from Canada (my IP address is in Canada right now), working seriously on anything like WPAMERICAS will probably very shortly get me accused of calling Mexico not part of North America, just like when I created WP:WikiProject North America, and was hounded out of it by baseless accusations concerning everyone in Canada. (I specifically proposed the project to cover Mexico, USA, Canada and Greenland, in the proposal itself, but that doesn't matter to someone who sees all Canadians as the same person) I don't bother going to WP:NORTHAMERICA anymore, since why bother. I avoid anything to do with WPMEXICO, it's a useless waste of time trying to discuss anything without getting a baseless accusation thrown in my face just because of my current location. -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 08:40, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hmmm that info is a bit concerning. A whole range of possible sanctions for unacceptable behaviours come to mind... sats 08:45, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- There's plenty of other things on Wikipedia, and North America has plenty of editors, so it doesn't really affect much. Whether the Americas gets editors are not, would be if people from the various Americas projects are interested in the umbrella or not. It's just like every other thing on Wikipedia, if you're an IP user, someone will call you a sockpuppet because the only IP editors who voice opinions must be sockpuppets, someone will delete your comments because only registered users are allowed to voice opinions, etc. It's a fact of life on Wikipedia. -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 08:53, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

Kevin Rutherford (talk) 15:27, 17 August 2013 (UTC)You were trying to add text into the move template, but it went into Anthony Appleyard's comment instead. I've removed it a second time, for that reason. —rybec 15:11, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- It's the actual nomination, and without that text, you're breaking user:RMCD bot, which is the listing bot for WP:RM. The requested move is incorrectly formatted, so isn't being picked up properly by the bot. It's not supposed to go into the template. It's supposed to after the template and before the rationale in this format. The bot scrapes the code and tries to find the rationale, which it will not find if the nomination is incorrectly formatted, which it is when you reverted the change. That bit is supposed to be autogenerated when you use the substitution template that a standard RM request uses. -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 15:23, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- I see that it's needed; would you mind if it came before Anthony Appleyard's comment (i.e. on its own line, before the asterisk) rather than within it? Tariqabjotu suggested adding the reason, which appears to be that in Arabic the definite article Al- is always used in the name of this place. —rybec 16:19, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- If it works, go for it. If not, revert is just a step away (RMCD bot runs every 15 minutes, AFAIR, so it takes that long to see if the change broke something) -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 01:40, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Gladiators: The Ashes 1 may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Guidon copyright & source
[edit]Hi, it looks like you tagged the image File:Guidon of the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars.jpg for errors. I need to ask for your help in respect of that. I copied the licencing etc from File:Image of QAMR Guidon.png which was uploaded in 2007. Is there a particular reason why the guidon image I uploaded is different from the one already there? I'm asking because, if I've made an error, I want to be able to correct it properly and maintain the use of the image and also because I don't want to make the same error in future. Thanks. SonofSetanta (talk) 11:32, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, it was user:ImageTaggingBot that did it [1], but I'll take a look at it. -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 11:41, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
