Hello, what a brilliant job on Adyghe grammar you are doing! Are you following any published textbook or grammar book that can be referred to in the "References" section (and also to check if the topics are covered completely)? Once you feel the article is more or less finished, I would like to translate it into Russian, and possibly into French. Also the current English version will probably need some proofreading for language, it may be difficult to follow at times.

Thank you, and keep up the great work! AlexNB (talk) 17:51, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Check this website. Anyway i think the English page itself isn't good enough. I got carried away with the examples and my English isn't professional level.--Adamsa123 (talk) 20:31, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You are doing great on examples (better to have more than less to explain difficult concepts!), and there will be more than enough English speakers around to get it right in the end.
One thing that comes to my mind: when you are describing personal prefixes for the verb, you are listing only those related to the subject, like: сэкIо – сэ-кIо, "I(subj.) go". But there are also other personal prefixes for direct and indirect objects, for example (sorry if I make mistakes here): уестыщт - у-е-с-ты-щт, you(direct obj.)-to him(indirect obj.)-I(subj.)-give-(future tense), "I will give you to him". Could you list them as well? AlexNB (talk) 22:29, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What you're saying is true, though i have no idea where to list those. by the way are you talking about words like : уесIуэтагъ - i told him about you, уысфепчэгъ - i asked him for you.--Adamsa123 (talk) 22:49, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've been thinking about it (sorry for the long and unintended delay), and recently I found a book published in Moscow in 2009 which is a series of articles on Adyghe linguistics. The book has about 100 page introduction on Adyghe grammar. I translated a part of it (dealing with Adyghe verb structure) into English, as it is probably the best explanation of Adyghe verb paradigm I've ever seen on the web. Here, take a look: [1] I hope it will help to organize the material in your article. I would be glad to help with this work anytime. AlexNB (talk) 11:19, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi --Adamsa123; I would like to thank you for your great effort on Adyghe grammar. It is very useful for me as a new learner. If you are still interested on this page I want to ask for your help. I need more examples on verbs especially conjugations. Can you advice me a book or an online material for verb conjugation in Adyghe language? many thanks in advance. --metinhoca

I personality don't know any materiel that can help you. If you know Turkish by any chance I can ask my friend from Turkey for good online materials he got. You can also ask me and I can try to help you.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 21:54, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi --Adamsa123; Thank you for quick response. I livein Turkey and know Turkish and I probably have the online resources you have mentioned. But unfortunately they are all speaking based, I need something grammar based. If it doens't put youto great inconvenience, I will continue to ask you about grammar --metinhoca

I asked my friend in Turkey and he told me to send you this [2]. Hopefully this will help, and also like I said before you can ask me for any question.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 16:35, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
By the way I still have more stuff to add to Adyghe grammar but I don't have enough time at the moment ;).--Adamʂa123 (talk) 16:45, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I hope you will have time for this :) What I need is especially the verbs and conjugations. If you have some sources about verbs you can send me via email --metinhoca
What are you looking for that Adyghe grammar doesn't have? as it is now that page is pretty big and it covers most of the grammar.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 17:43, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

--Adamʂa123 Can you provide us the list of commonly used verbs in groups? many thanks in advance--metinhoca

No problem but what you mean by groups? Can you give an example?--Adamʂa123 (talk) 22:35, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

--Adamʂa123 I mean the verbs which are conjugated in the same way or take the same suffixes or prefixes--metinhoca

You mean like this?
Sociative suffix (дэ-) :
дэкӏон - "to go with", деплъын - "to look with", дэшхэн - "to eat with".
In favour of or for prefix (фэ-) :
фэкӏон - "to go for", феплъын - "to look for", фэшхэн - "to eat for".
Causative (гъэ-) :
гъээкӏон - "to force someone to go", егъэплъын - "to force someone to look", гъээшхэн - "to force someone to eat".

--Adamʂa123 These are allright. I am also talking about the tenses( especially present-past and future) verb conjugation in these tenses, for example ; what are the verbs which take -сы ,сэ or сэ́ prefix while being conjugated at present tense ?May be the liste of stative versb and dynamic verbs--metinhoca

Is this good?

Tense Singular Plural
First-person Second-person Third-person First-person Second-person Third-person
Past сыкӏуагъ укӏуагъ мэкӏуагъ тыкӏуагъ шъукӏуагъ мэкӏуагъэх
Past 2 сыкӏогъагъ укӏогъагъ мэкӏогъагъ тыкӏогъагъ шъукӏогъагъ мэкӏогъагъэх

Future сыкӏощт укӏощт мэкӏощт тыкӏощт шъукӏощт мэкӏощтых

Thank you for the table . Now under the this table will you please write a list of the verbs which is conjugated in the same way. (just the names of the verbs , not the whole conjugation table)?

Well almost every intransitive verb. мэплъэн (to look), мэшхэн (to eat), мэлэжьэн (to work), мэчъэн (to run), мэгущыӏэн (to talk), мэпцӏын (to lie), мэгъолъын (to lay down), мэтэджын (to stand up), мэуцун (to stop), мэукӏытэн (to be shy), мэлӏэн (to die), мэон (to hit), мэзэзэн (to shake), мэкуон (to scream), мэшӏыкӏэен (to do trouble), мэхъонэн (to swear), мэлэчэн (to be hungry), мэстын (to burn), мэкӏосэн (to turn off, to extinguish), мэгъутхьэн (to pee), мэгушӏон (to laugh, to be happy), мэкӏодын (to get lost), мэхъун (to happen), мэсымэджэн (to get sick), мэтхьэлэн (to suffocate).--Adamʂa123 (talk) 18:05, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Adamsa, I'm happy to meet you here cause I just began to import some of your records from commons to the french wiktionnary. I just make a basic Adyghe IPA table over there (table here (fr)). But now I'll really want fill it with some Adyghe words as example to illustrate each letters. That's why I come here with the hope you'll be able to create some records to illustrate. And if possible if you can make each phoneme used on the Adyghe to illustrate the sound represented by the letter itself. By the way I don't know nothing about Adyghe, but I think the endangered languages are one of our priority but I study japanese and korean so I'm quite familiar with grammar and linguistic stuff now. That why I'm ready to help you to translate your work on french when you'll finish/complete it. Thank you and cheers up !
PS: I think the Wiktionary project (the free dictionary) support by the Wikimedia foundation may interest you in the future : Wiktionary (english). The goal is to define all words from all languages around the world. And like on Wikipedia over there also everything needs to be done about the Adyghe's words : Adyghe category on en.wiktionary. It's perfect, I take care to create the alpahbet as soon as possible (tonight or tomorrow). I hope I didn't forgot letters or add to much cause I saw you skip the йо (Ё/ё), it isn't use as adyghe letters ? Should I remove it ? Thanks also to had correct the IPA, it's was mainly from omniglot's site source. Thanks you very much. V!v£ l@ Rosière /Whisper…/ 06:26, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Don't remove any letters, it's true that they are not used in the Adyghe language but they are used in borrowed words like some Russian words for example.--Adamsa123 (talk) 08:02, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi Adamsa. What do you think about renaming the Adyghe people article to Circassians (or Circassian people) and merging Kabarday and perhaps Abazins and Ubykh people into it as sections, to create a unified article for ethnic Circassians?

Most other ethnic groups are represented on a single article, whereas ethnic Circassians are divided between several articles at present, none of which is named Circassians - the name that Adyghes are famous by (in English). Is it better to have one article representing all Circassians, or several articles representing the subgroups?

This is just an idea I had. Maybe it's bad or somehow flawed I don't know. What do you think? Irānshahr (talk) 13:52, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well I agree that calling it Circassians will be better because most people know this ethnic group by the name Circassians and not Adyghe. If it is possible to merge all the articles into one main article, then why not. But I think this main article should mention all the subgroups especially the Shapsugs, Kabardians, Abazins and Ubykh people.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 16:36, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to make any changes that Circassians won't like, so are you sure that this would be better? Irānshahr (talk) 17:55, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Don't think mering the articles will be a problem for someone, but the Circassians (Kabardians as well) call them-self Adyghe and that's their real name.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 23:16, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

нэйж is more exact ? Fort123 (talk) 20:19, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yea.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 22:37, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This pronunciation is тpaйзы, right ? Fort123 (talk) 19:27, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe тхъaйзы ? Fort123 (talk) 15:17, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yea I think the second one is correct.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 22:54, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Abkhaz-Abaza

[edit]

Hi Adamsa,

I've left a comment in the talk page of the Abkhaz language, asking few questions. You seem to be knowledgeable about the topic. I would be more than happy if you could have a look and comment. Same questions could easily apply to Adyge and Kabardian as well. Thank you very much,

PS. I'm not a linguist but maybe an amateur philologist, so sorry for any possible mistakes I may have made. --Universal Life (talk) 16:15, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I really want to help, but unfortunately I am not familiar with Abaza and Abkhaz languages. From what I know both languages share many words that have the same root, but are pronounced differently.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 23:08, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proto-Circassian

[edit]

I must say that I admire your contributions on wikipedia about Circassian language. Sometimes I try to consider how our anchestors were speaking. You contributed the page Proto-Circassian language a lot. Here is the question: Do you have any texts or sound records that might be the Proto-Circassian language? Blegojcaner (talk) 22:36, 1 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately there is none. The Proto-Circassian language (like most Proto-languages) is reconstructed. I am also really interested in how our ancestors were speaking, so if you have any information or source about any western or eastern Circassian dialect please share. If you have any questions you also can ask me.
By the way, this source ([4]) claims that the western Circassian шъу [ʃʷ] and жъу [ʒʷ] came from су [sʷ] and зу [zʷ]. Do you know any Circassian dialect that have them?
I also was wondering. In my Shapsug dialect there exist both сӏ [sʼ] and цӏ [tsʼ] unlike all other dialects that only have цӏ [tsʼ], so then from where came our сӏ [sʼ] and did Proto-Circassian had it?--Adamʂa123 (talk) 00:48, 2 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A question :-)

[edit]

Hello Adamsa123,

I have a question; could you perhaps add/check the Circassian translation(s) to these articles? It'd make a valuable addition.

And if you could check whether these translations are correct; Circassians in Turkey, Circassians in Iran.

Thanks a lot. Bests - LouisAragon (talk) 02:40, 19 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Adamsa123:, could you let me know if you are able to do so or not? If not, I can ask someone else. Bests - LouisAragon (talk) 15:32, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Excuse me, I forgot to reply. None of them have a Circassian translation and I am afraid I can't translate them either. My translation's quality won't be good enough.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 16:09, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Adamsa123:, no probs, thanks for managing to reply in any case :-) I see, would you however be perhaps able to add a phonetic aka "literal" translation of Circassian to those articles, or wouldn't that be possible either? That would really be a valueable addition, as I will nominate at least one of them (Teresia Sampsonia) for GA soon. Bests - LouisAragon (talk) 23:03, 21 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I can try.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 08:50, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Adamsa123:, that would be great. Bests - LouisAragon (talk) 22:40, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize, I am failing to translate them to Circassian. There are just too many words that I don't know their meaning in Circassian.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 19:33, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Adamsa123, I see, so you're also unable to do so for Teresia Sampsonia? Alright then. Thanks much for having tried at least. ;-) Bests - LouisAragon (talk) 17:53, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Adyghe phonology, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Palatalization. I just came across all your work on Adyghe linguistics, a topic that hardly anyone else has worked on due to its marginalness for English speakers, but a very useful one which you've expanded quite nicely here on Wikipedia. Linguistic articles

[edit]

Thank you for your recent contributions! It's great to see such good content created about the grammars of Adyghe and Kabardian. I see that you've supplied interlinear glosses as well: I reckon you might find it's easier to do them with Template:fs interlinear than with tables. Also, I think it will be really helpful if you listed your sources at the end of the articles: there's no need to use inline refs or citation templates if you don't feel like, but at least the basic bibliographic details would be nice. Thanks! – Uanfala (talk) 17:24, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well thanks! I don't add bibliographic because I am just not so sure how to write them properly and professionally.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 17:40, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! The ones you've just added to Adyghe pronouns and Kabardian verbs look good. I would absolutely not worry about writing them "properly": it's important to have enough basic bibliographic information so the source can be identified and it's not important at all how this information is formatted. Cheers! – Uanfala (talk) 17:52, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Adyghe transcription

[edit]

You seem the best person to ask which Latin transcription the English Wikipedia uses, in particular for article names. We're having an ongoing discussion on the German Wikipedia about the best way to transcribe it. (See e.g. de:Diskussion:Tyghwyschyqwe Qysbetsch#2Transkription.) If there is anything like a convention used here, I would like to add it, as a basis for the discussion, to the table at de:Benutzer:SebastianHelm/Adygeische_Transkription. ◅ Sebastian Helm 🗨 14:40, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adyghe Language Text to Speech

[edit]

Hi do you know any tts that has Adyghe available?

Also a personal question. are you an Adyghe born and live in Israel? Howpodjashock1 (talk) 20:35, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No, I don't know any TTS, I don't think any exist. Yes, I'm an Adyghe born and living in Israel.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 21:16, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is Adyghe still widely spoken in the Adyghe community in Israel? Also, what is the extent of mutual intelligibility between Adyghe, Kabardian and Abkhaz in percentage? Howpodjashock1 (talk) 05:38, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is our first-language/native-tongue for all 4,000 of us Circassians in Israel, and it is the "default" language we speak publicly and privately within the two Circassian villages. About mutual intelligibility, one thing for certain, Abkhaz is a totally different language and I'm pretty confident when I say, the percentage is 0% mutual intelligibility. Adyghe & Kabardian are closely related and have mutual intelligibility, but it is hard for me to give it a percentage. For us, Circassians of Israel, because we do not have any Kabardian speakers around and we have no exposure to it, we barely understand it. But if there is some exposure, I would say, they're pretty mutually intelligible. If you have any more questions or want me to elaborate something, feel free to leave a message.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 18:03, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. I also want to ask the pronunciations of vowels like the Е/И pair and О/У pair, how to differentiate them? Because what I saw from their ipa is just the difference of ɘ (close-mid front unrounded vowel) and ə (mid central vowel)? Are they phonetically accurate? (or you created the chart actually?)
Also, Adyghe in Israel is taught in Latin or Cyrillic Alphabets? Moreover, where can I find the source of the Latin Alphabets used in wiki? (The one I refer is: Ӏ is ’ while Ӏу is ’°) Howpodjashock1 (talk) 09:44, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to ask about the pronunciations of э and ы too, thanks Howpodjashock1 (talk) 10:39, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
also the ipa of э should be /ɐ/ rather than /ɜ/ ? Howpodjashock1 (talk) 10:41, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
btw do you have vk or instagram? It seems to be more convenient to continue our conversation in other social medias. Howpodjashock1 (talk) 12:50, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
sorry should be ɘ and ɜ Howpodjashock1 (talk) 13:13, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an expert on vowels, I have a good understanding of consonants, but differences between vowels is something I'm struggling with. All I know is that there are 3 vowels in Circassians: long a, short a and the vowel that sounds like the schwa. Different dialects may pronounce the vowels a bit differently, for example, this is not how we pronounce the letter ы in my village Mid central vowel. Е,И,О & У are not vowels. They're like English "q", the letter "q" In English is not just a "k" right? it's a consonant "k" with a sound like "yu". Same thing with Circassian, Е,И,О & У are the sound "w" or "y" followed by vowel. There is not an official latin alphabet, and the Latin ones that currently exist were made by organizations, and they're not recognized by all Circassians. The Cyrillic ones are the official ones and are recognized by all Circassians.--Adamʂa123 (talk) 16:05, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
