Dungeon magazine

[edit]

Hi! I saw your work on the article, and I for one appreciate the improvement; we definitely needed more facts from the magazine's early years. If you're looking for more of an assessment, you might want to try the D&D Wikiproject page and see if anyone wants to volunteer, as I don't think anyone is currently watching Wikipedia:WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons/Assessment. 24.148.0.83 (talk) 03:11, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:KevinSiembieda-GenConIndy2004.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:KevinSiembieda-GenConIndy2004.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hammersoft (talk) 20:42, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:KevinSiembieda-GenConIndy2004.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hammersoft (talk) 20:42, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah okay, I see how it changed, I'll try and figure out how to cite properly if there are more refs to add in the future. All the variables we can add are kinda confusing. Bonechamber (talk) 23:26, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Image move requests

[edit]

Hi. I moved some of the files you suggested for renaming, though not to the names you requested... The requests unifying the "After the Bomb" series seemed valid - the current names weren't identifying a major part of the images subject; however those belonging to the "TMNT&OS" series are fine as having TMNT in the title is a good enough identifier in my opinion - there's no ambiguity there... If you've any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks, Nikthestunned 09:51, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to the edits on The Shackled City Adventure Path‎

[edit]

Hello,

I figured I'd try to contact you in this method about these edits, rather than accidentally and unintentionally starting an edit war. I looked over the section for the anchor that you had outlined in your edit notes (WP:ANCHOR), as well as its corresponding shortcut WP:TARGET. However, neither one of these specifically state that a line that is not technically a section cannot have an anchor. Also, if you would like an example where anchors are essentially used in this method as well, please see all of the anchors in Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion; this article is filled with several anchors that are not specifically anchored onto true section titles. Also, unless the anchor that we have been reverting a bit is there, the redirected I cited earlier, Asylum (Shackled City), will not redirect to the proper place in the article. Steel1943 (talk) 08:34, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, just because a certain practice is not explicitly proscribed does not necessarily mean that it is correct by virtue of its omission. In this particular case, it could be that the authors of WP:ANCHOR and WP:TARGET chose to focus only on the few specific instances where the use of anchors is appropriate, rather than go to the trouble of listing all of the others where it is not, with the expectation that readers will simply accept the guideline at face value. WP:CSD may not serve as the best example for alternative usage of anchors, primarily because it is not in the main namespace, but also because it is a far more complex article than the one currently in contention. That aside (and I am not merely saying this to prove my point), the use of anchors in WP:CSD does not appear to range very far afield of the guideline. Even though, as you say, a number of anchors are not tied to "true sections", I did not come across any that were tied to individual words within the body of the article itself. Insofar as the "Asylum" article is concerned, I am of the opinion that it should be deleted, the sooner the better. I would even venture to say that it ought not to have been created in the first place: given that its subject is a single episode of a single module, it lacks the notability to stand as an article on its own. Instead of (mis)applying the anchor syntax to a highly questionable purpose, deleting the "Asylum" redirect altogether is, to my way of thinking, the best way to resolve this issue. However things turn out, thank you for taking the time to initiate a discussion. — Apo-kalypso (talk) 10:11, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No worries about this discussion. I also agree that if an anchor cannot be agreed upon (I still am not convinced that the anchor is misapplied) that the redirect Asylum (Shackled City) be deleted. I went ahead and listed it on WP:RFD at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2013 April 7#Asylum (Shackled City). Honestly, I'd rather have that redirect deleted and be done with it since I also believe that the redirect fails a notability test, but if the redirect were to remain, I feel that the anchor should remain since it was located at the most precise target for the redirect. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
