Your picture of Prince in 1977

[edit]

I very much enjoyed your picture of Prince composing at the piano in 1977. However somebody deleted this image in July, citing lack of a fair-use rationale. Perhaps you could upload it again and explain the source so it does not get deleted again? Unfortunately Wikipedia policy is pretty strict about images these days, so gems like yours tend to be boldly deleted... Cheers, JFG 13:07, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Jonishine.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Jonishine.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:28, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Monkey_washing_cat.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Monkey_washing_cat.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Coredesat 06:09, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Bjork, Debut album cover, 1993.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. License tagging for File:Michael Jackson - Ben - Original Rat Cover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Michael Jackson - Ben - Original Rat Cover.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 13:05, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Beck sea change alt cover 1.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 23:40, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Todd rundgrens utopia.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Scatman John

[edit]

Hey! Um... so this is really digging through old Wikhistory, but I'm trying to track down a quote from Scatman John. The article says that "He maintained a positive attitude throughout, declaring that whatever God wants is fine by me... I've had the very best life". It's such a great quote, and I'd love to be able to access the interview where he said that! I went through the edit history, and it looks like you might be the one that added this quote almost five years ago. If you are (I know it's been a looong time), I was wondering if you might be able to help me figure out where this quote came from... I've tried Googling for it, but all I get are Wikipedia mirrors and user profiles :( If you're still around and could help me track it down, I'd be most grateful. Thanks,

-- Joren (talk) 03:41, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Darn it! Had a look at the Wayback Machine only to find that some domain squatter grabbed scatmanjohn.com and set a robots.txt to exclude all searches, which also had the effect of removing all the old info from the archive. See archive.org's blocking notice. I'm at a loss to understand why a domain squatter would specifically disallow web spiders, but oh well. I wonder if the maintainer for the original site might be able to help...? Anyhow, thanks for your response, I appreciate you getting back to me.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing inappropriate pages, such as Haxed by Public Transport, is not in accordance with our policies. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion".
