SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please tell me on SuggestBot's talk page. Thanks from ForteTuba, SuggestBot's caretaker.
No problem, I enjoy adding posters to films as it does make the article look so much better. I went through the film articles you created and added more posers when I was able. I also put up some infobox requests, so if you want to extend some of those articles you can possibly work on that. Also, try and make sure that you include the {{Film}} template on the talk page each time that you create a new article so we can easily locate film articles. Keep up the good work, you are an asset to WP:Films! --Nehrams202022:08, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:
Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
I know it's not much of a citation, but I have a copy of the family tree. :-D
Seriously, what sort of reference would mention that Noah's great-great and Heidi's great-great-great were brothers or cousins? As it is, most of the web is filled with the misinformation that he's her nephew, which (as I wrote at Talk:Noah_Fleiss) isn't true. If you have any suggestions, I'd welcome them. Malik Shabazz07:54, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
how does the "one" fansite get picked then? because there was one there almost a year ago and mods kept deleting it. Now this one gets to stay? not fair. EXXC3L17:51, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
well the one that is currently listed on the Channing Tatum page should definitely not be there. It's just a blog. There are fansites that have been on the web for much longer, and have much more information and facts.
We have another new department, Categorization, with the ambitious goal of defining a clear categorization system for the thousands of film articles and other WP:FILMS pages. This involves improving the general order of Category:Films and creating guidelines for which Categories are to be added in film articles. The department is having a difficult start, but look ahead to when we will have all of our articles not only assessed but properly categorized as well.
The project is currently in the process of attempting to add film infoboxes to all of our articles. There are approximately 800 articles tagged with {{needs film infobox}}. Adding an infobox takes only a few minutes, so if you have the time, please consider helping to tackle these infobox requests. You can also consider adopting a section to tackle here.
The project List of films without article has extended its scope in three lists: One by decade, compiling red-linked films found in various filmographies and articles, one by country, compiling films from other countries and one by notability, focusing mostly on awarded films.
Thanks to the efforts of our members, we have over 18,500 articles tagged! The Assessment Department has more information on the statistics of our project.
You may have noticed a new template on the talk pages of all of our stub-class articles. The template was added to provide instructions to editors on what additional information an article needs to be upgraded from a stub to a start class. If you see that the article meets the listed requirements, change the class to start, and the template will automatically be removed. Hopefully this template will help to improve the quality of articles within our project.
There is also a new template that may be added to talk pages for articles that need a film-related image. This new template is {{filmimage}}, which should be used instead of {{reqscreenshot}} or {{reqphoto}}. Talk pages that have this template are accessible from Category:Wikipedia requested film images.
Spotlight Update: Multiple films and film-related articles have reached GA and FA status in December and January. January so far has been our most successful month in improving articles to GA. Keep up the good work!
The issue of which films are notable enough to be included in Wikipedia and what guidelines should apply has been recently discussed in Village pump, trying to clear out the issue. Additionally Wikipedia:Notability (films) has been changed from inactive to proposal (in development). Discussion or other constructive participation is most welcome.
We are currently thinking about creating a "Film Board" and a "Tech Board" for all help related to the management and operation of our project, both in the content areas and the technical ones. Also a "Translation Board" has been proposed to help with film articles from other Wikipedias.
If you've just joined or if you haven't already, add your name to the Participants section of Wikipedia:WikiProject Films. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!

The LGBT Portal has once again been revamped and a work rota started. Efforts towards Featured Portal status are slowly coming together.
The assessment system has been a great success, we have tagged over 4000 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system.
The Translation department has changed its focus, to LGBT articles about non-English topics and people on which there may be more information on the relevant foreign Wikipedia. Please add your name if you are fluent in any language other than English.
Jumpaclass is picking up slowly, with nine people having entered. With over 2000 stubs we need to improve our article quality. Please sign up and get it going! Challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub!
There is an ongoing discussion about the current LGBT categorisation system here, here, and a little bit here. A special page has now been set up here to deal with this.
A Watchlist has been set up to monitor controversial and/or highly vandalised articles. It can also be used for article disputes, just add a note explaining the nature of the dispute.
With the influx of so many active members, there is now enough support for a LGBT studies peer review, which may be found here. It's in the beta phase at the moment, so bear with us if we make any mistakes. Feel free to peer review any articles you have been working on.
It was agreed this month to start reducing the uses of the Notice board, as many members felt that it was not effective. An open tasks template has been created, bringing together important announcements, FAC/FARs, Peer reviews, XfDs, the COTM, and requested articles. You may desire to watchlist it. A Deletion sorting subpage is also now working to bring together XfDs - this should be bot-driven, but we have not currently tagged enough articles to make this fully automated, so please update the list with any LGBT-related XfDs you come across.
To stop receiving this newsletter, or to receive it in a different format, please drop me a line. If you have any news or any announcements to be broadcast, do let Dev920 know.
Is there any way you could stop someone from spamming a page? Some girl is spamming the Channing Tatum page by adding her link. I'm trying to have a discussion about it so we can decide which site should be listed, but she keeps adding hers and isn't discussing anything. EXXC3L22:22, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
If you will look at the talk page on Channing Tatum, you will see all three of the fan sites finally came to an agreement that they should all be there. I tried to discuss with the user above, but she started using inappropriate language in our discussions. You can read the talk page and see what I am talking about. She has a personal grudge against me, because she is jealous of my new blog. My site is currently linked to from MovieSet.com and I am contacted daily by industry insiders asking me to promote movie and DVD releases for the actor. This user is upset by this and is trying to cause trouble. If you will notice, the new news related to the actor has been reported on my site first and then reported on the other fan sites later. You can find me anywhere and everywhere on the net (Netscape, Digg, Technorati) just to name a few. You can even read the following press release to learn more about the blog: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2007/1/prweb499938.htm. She is unfairly trying to get my site removed even though I have the most up-to-date information about the actor currently. Wcfirm19:00, 12 February 2007 (UTC)][reply]
Hi. The links do not need to appear twice on the page. They are already at the bottom of the infobox. That is why the imdb_id and amg_id lines are there. Tim Long22:50, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies[edit]
Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of unassessed articles tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod20:15, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is just a quick, automated note to let you know that there is an election being conducted over the next 7 days for the position of "Coordinator" for the LGBT WikiProject. Your participation is requested. -- SatyrTN (talk·contribs)
Your help is needed now to run the Wikiproject. In the absence of Plange's excellent leadership, many important tasks have fallen by the wayside. Please volunteer as a coordinator for the project.
We have begun a new assessment drive to help clear the massive backlog of unassessed articles. Make sure to sign up and help out.
The Biography Portal needs your help! Take the time to nominate or vote on nominations for the portal's highlighted articles, help revise the Did You Know? section, or drop by to add your favorite quotes as future quotes of the week.
Don't forget to help out with the collaboration of the fortnight. And while you're there, why not nominate an article or vote for one of the current nominations?
Everybody needs a break sometimes, and that might go for WikiProjects as well. But the WP:Biography newsletter is back from its hiatus, and the project is healthier than ever. With more than 250 active members and upwards of 20 admins, we are one of the biggest projects on wikipedia. But size doesn't matter - or so they say. The true measure of a wikiproject is how much it contributes to the betterment of wikipedia. Which means adding your name to the rolls wasn't enough. If you haven't already, it's time to step up and help out the project. Volunteer. Contribute. So take a look at the to-do list in this newsletter, and let's get going.
If you've just joined, add your name to the Members section of Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!
Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue (Issue 2 – April 2007). Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!

Project News
With such rapid development of the project, it was decided that a Coordinator was needed to ensure all the fiddly maintenence was kept up. Elections were held and Dev920 (talk·contribs) has been elected Coordinator for the next three months. She said "I am honoured and proud to be at the helm of such a fantastic WikiProject and look forward to our future". Congratulations Dev!
The assessment system continues to be a great success, we have tagged over 5200 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system.
Jumpaclass is proving to be quite successful! The winner at the end of the year gets to pick the January collaboration, so sign up and get going! Or challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub!
A new Community department has been set up to foster community amongst our members. It mostly acts as other WikiProjects' Outreach department, but also has a Quilt to which every member is entitled to add a square containing anything of their choice.
The peer review is not getting much custom - please notice you can cross-list other peer reviews from different projects that also fall within our scope.
Many people still seem to be unaware that the Deletion sorting subpage exists for XfDs to be listed: please use and watch that page instead of issuing "alerts" for ordinary AfDs on the project talkpage.
WP:FILM has a current drive to give every film article an infobox. WP:LGBT successfully gave all 105 LGBT infoboxless films infoboxes, so a big thank you to everyone who participated.
A new template, LGBT, has been created for articles which are becoming to cluttered with infoboxes. Thanks to WJBscribe and SatyrTN for creating it.
A very basic resources page has been started. Please add to it as you come across useful sites.
A promotional poster for the project has been created: http://wplgbt.tripod.com/Wikipedianeedsyou.doc (you have to directly cut and paste the url, or it won't let you download it). Please distribute anywhere and everywhere you desire, such as gay libraries, cybercafes, community centres and so on. Also, please let Dev920 know where you have put it up, so she can keep track of our coverage.
An LGBT Publications Taskforce has been proposed. Please sign up here if you are interested in being involved.
An LGBT WikiProject has been set up on the Spanish Wikipedia! Set up by Raystorm, it has already gained six members and is developing an assessment system. If you speak any Spanish, please consider going up and lending a hand if you can!

Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals currently has a new proposal for Wikiproject Actors and Filmmakers, a descendant project of both WP:Films and WP:Biography. Please join in the discussion for the implementation of this new project.
We have now reached over 22,000 film articles that have been assessed by our assessment department! Remember to always add the {{Film|class=}} template to a film article's talk page so the project can get a better idea of what work still needs to be done. Below is a table showing a breakdown of our articles by class and importance.
There are now two new ways to help make the assessment of film articles even easier. On the main project page, there is a link to User:AlexNewArtBot/CinemaSearchResult, where all newly created articles that possibly pertain to WP:Films are compiled in a list, using a bot that searches for select key words. In addition, a new script has been developed at User talk:Outriggr/metadatatest.js that allows articles to be assessed at a quicker rate. If you want to become more involved in assessing articles, please be sure to check out these new features.
We have a new department this month, List and navigation management, which will help us to improve the quality of our film lists and navigational templates through the standardization of formatting and content. Since it is brand new, the department needs input from as many members as possible to help ensure consensus and establish acceptable guidelines. Please stop by and join the discussions.
The infobox requests are slowly going down, but there are still around 2050 requests. It would benefit from more participation.
Spotlight Update: Multiple films and film-related articles have reached GA and FA status in March 2007. This month, we have reached over 50 current GA articles.

There is now the beginning of a list of core topics to possibly be included in the Wikipedia 1.0 release. Your suggestions are welcome; there may be many core LGBT topics still missing.
SatyrTN identified all the articles that were in subcategories of Category:LGBT but not yet tagged with the project's banner, about 1,400 articles. These have been completed, though SatyrBot will make periodic runs through the cats to find any new entries. Thanks Satyr!
The number of articles within our project's spectrum (6,667 currently) should now be relatively stable and only grow with article creation. However, if you find a category that should be included, please let SatyrTN know so it can be included in the bots runs.
Work is underway to improve the LGBT Portal. Please add any good quality (free) photos you come across on LGBT articles to the gallery here. Also if anyone would like to volunteer to help in maintaining the portal, please make yourselves known on the Portal's talkpage.

An A-class review department has been set up. A-class grades are now reserved for articles that pass an A-class review. The department is in need of dedicated reviewers.
The proposal to start a WikiProject Biography Coordination Council has been reopened. Please discuss the proposal, or nominate yourself to be a coordinator, at the talk page.
The Spring 2007 assessment drive was a huge success. A grand total of 44,324 biographies have been assessed in just over a month.
Since the last newsletter, through the efforts of multiple bots and all who participated in the Spring Assessment Drive, the project has expanded greatly and at the time of writing encompasses over 350,000 articles, just over 1/5 of the whole of Wikipedia - something to be proud of? However, almost half of these are marked as stubs, and only with the continued effort of us, the 300 and those not part of the project can all of these articles be improved - though as statistics show, this is already happening...

Would all members who are also admins, and who have a reasonable understanding of advanced template syntax, please ensure that they have {{WPBiography}} on their watchlist? The template is fully protected now.
Two new WikiProjects have formed that relate to WP:Films. WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers has been started as a descendant of WP:Films and WP:BIO. The project will help to improve the quality of articles on actors, directors, screenwriters, producers, cinematographers, film editors, and film score composers. WikiProject James Bond also formed this month and will help to improve James Bond films, books, characters, and other related articles. The projects each currently have memberships of 20 users, and are seeking new members. Stop by both of these new projects and see if they interest you.
We have now reached over 25,000 film articles that have been assessed by our assessment department! WikiProject Biography is holding a three month long assessment drive! The goal of this drive is to eliminate the backlog of unassessed articles. The drive is running from June 1, 2007 – September 1, 2007.
Awards to be won range from delicacies such as the WikiCookie to the great Golden Wiki Award. There are over 110,000 articles to assess so please visit the drive's page and help out!
Monthly Challenge: June Stub Review! Take a moment and sift through the roughly 3,600 Stub-class LGBT articles. Are they still stubs? If not, make an assessment change. As a result of recent discussions and polls on the use of the spoiler warning, the template should not be added to "Plot" or "Synopsis" related sections as the heading makes the use of the spoiler template redundant. For more information, see Wikipedia:Spoiler.
Wikipedia:Good article candidates could use more assistance in reducing the backlog. There are currently several film-related articles that can be reviewed by any editor, as long as they follow the requirements of the GA criteria. Please help determine if the nominees are GA-quality.

The Core Topics is now largely complete. The original aim of getting some kind of publication out of it is extremely long term - any short term uses we can make of it are welcome on the project talkpage.
A suggestion was made this month that we start our own wiki. Although the conclusion was that we felt we were a part of Wikipedia rather than a stand alone organisation, it seems there is an LGBT wiki already, at http://lgbt.wikia.com/wiki/Main_page . Members may be interested in getting involved there.
The Collaboration is now getting rather short on suggestions. Article nominations for August through December would be welcome on the talkpage.
There is now a list of Missing LGBT Topics. Help is needed to work out which topics can be made redirects or need to be created. Please contribute is you can.
An LGBT banner that was created for Wikipedia's internal ads system has now been adapted so it can be placed on blogs and websites. Two new templates are available for assisting in adding fair use rationales for film-related images that need them. Template:Filmrationale can be included on the image page for posters, screenshots, and VHS/DVD covers while Template:Filmbiorationale can be used for deceased actors. By adding fair use rationales for the many images the project includes, we can help ensure that various images are not deleted for lacking a FUR.
List of American films has been developed, and could currently use some assistance in developing each of the years, beginning in the 1890s to 2009. Each year needs to have the list of films converted to wikilinks within tables that also contain the director, cast, and genre of the film. Consider tackling a year or assisting in sorting a few films when you have the time.

Since the last newsletter was released, we have had more members been labelled inactive than who have signed up - please consider recruiting a few more people if you can, a WikiProject is only as good as its members. :)
To stop receiving this newsletter, or to receive it in a different format, please let us know here. If you have any news or any announcements to be broadcast, do let Dev920 know.
Hey fellow Wikipedian! Your username is listed on the WikiProject Films participants list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active on the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:FILM editor, please add your name to the Active Members list. You may also wish to add {{User WikiProject Films}} to your userpage, if you haven't done so already. We also have several task forces that you may be interested in joining as well.
Also, elections for Project Coordinators are currently in sign-up phase. If you would be interested in running, or would like to ask questions of the candidates, please take a look. You can see more information on the positions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Coordinators. Thanks and happy editing!

The three-month long Summer Assessment Drive, organized by Psychless, was a huge success! It ran from June 1 – September 1, and reduced the backlog of unassessed articles from 113,385 to 56,237. In all, over 100,000 articles were assessed. Over 60 people contributed in some way.
A barnstar has been created for exceptional work on Wikipedia biographies and for assisting the project. The Biography Barnstar is listed with the other WikiProject awards and can be awarded easily with a template. See the template page for more details.
