[edit]It was great to meet you. If I see any unsourced math stubs, I will alert you. Bearian (talk) 22:51, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Bearian: Nice meeting you as well. Feel free to drop by here (although there are still some math articles I don't dare touch), and I look forward to seeing you at future meetups. Complex/Rational 23:14, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
Chemical study of nihonium and moscovium
[edit]Somehow I missed this from two months ago, but okay, better late than never. I think this is the first investigation of moscovium. (And it is also stated that there are promising methods for studying millisecond-lifetime Lv and Ts.) :) Double sharp (talk) 10:38, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Exciting news! I think Lv is doable, but I don't think chemistry of Ts can be done if the berkelium target needed for Ts production is so hard to obtain. :(
- By the way, is there any new predictions about Ts? After At is predicted to be a metal with density ~9 g/cm3, the "semimetallic" and low density of ~7 g/cm3 at the infobox of Ts looks outdated. Nucleus hydro elemon (talk) 13:19, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Nucleus hydro elemon: Not aware of any bulk predictions. I'm indeed convinced that Ts should be a metal, but the best source I have for that is just Andreas Hermann's guess in 2013 back when the metallic At prediction first came out. Double sharp (talk) 13:24, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- (Personally, what I wonder most about is whether Cn, Fl, and Og are metals.) Double sharp (talk) 07:53, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
- Interesting. And it looks like Mt, Ds, and Rg will continue to be ignored, even though at least Rg is arguably more accessible than Ts (easier synthesis and longer half-lives - at least of the granddaughters of Mc). Complex/Rational 14:30, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- The reasoning given by their articles is there are no volatile compounds of Mt, Ds, Rg without fluorine. If we somehow managed to do SHE fluorine chemistry, then the volatile fluorides DbF5, SgF5,6, BhF5,6,7 and HsF5,6,(7,8)? can be studied. Nucleus hydro elemon (talk) 14:49, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- There's no Au hexafluoride, so I kind of doubt there is a Rg one either. Double sharp (talk) 14:57, 27 November 2024 (UTC)

This paper also points out that since Cn and Fl are more volatile than Nh and Mc, it could be possible to chemically detect EC in the 288Mc decay chain. Double sharp (talk) 12:43, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
- Current detectors are not sensitive towards EC, so any way that could detect it looks good. I'll look forward to 287,290Fl→Nh and 268,270Db→Rf that solves unconfirmed nuclei, but I couldn't figure out a chemical way to separate them. (Can it detect a less volatile daughter?) :\
- Mt→Hs EC is probably observable based on the reaction towards oxygen of their lighter congeners (Os forms volatile OsO4, while Ir does nothing), but sadly there might be no EC to be observed at first, and Re2O7 (the lighter congener for Bh, the α-decay product of Mt) is also quite volatile. :( Nucleus hydro elemon (talk) 15:15, 29 November 2024 (UTC)
Regarding what might be done beyond Mc. Double sharp (talk) 07:52, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – December 2024
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2024).
Interface administrator changes
- Following an RFC, the policy on restoration of adminship has been updated. All former administrators may now only regain the tools following a request at the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard within 5 years of their most recent admin action. Previously this applied only to administrators deysopped for inactivity.
- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10, 2024.
- The arbitration case Yasuke (formerly titled Backlash to diversity and inclusion) has been closed.
- An arbitration case titled Palestine-Israel articles 5 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 14 December.

If you'd like to be notified of upcoming drives and blitzes, and other GOCE activities, the best method is to add our announcements box to your watchlist. Election news: The Guild's coordinators play an important role in the WikiProject, making sure Drive: In our September Backlog Elimination Drive, 67 editors signed up, 39 completed at least one copy edit, and between them they edited 682,696 words comprising 507 articles. Barnstars awarded are here. Blitz: The October Copy Editing Blitz saw 16 editors sign-up, 15 of whom completed at least one copy edit. They edited 76,776 words comprising 35 articles. Barnstars awarded are here. Drive: In our November Backlog Elimination Drive, 432,320 words in 151 articles were copy edited. Of the 54 users who signed up, 33 copy edited at least one article. Barnstars awarded are posted here. Blitz: The December Blitz will begin at 00:00 on 15 December (UTC) and will end on 21 December at 23:59. Sign up here. Barnstars awarded will be posted here. Progress report: As of 22:12, 7 December 2024 (UTC), GOCE copy editors have completed 333 requests since 1 January, and the backlog of tagged articles stands at 2,401 articles. Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators, Dhtwiki, Miniapolis, Mox Eden and Wracking.
