    Extended confirmed protection

    [edit]

Hello, Davewild. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

    • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
    • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

    Unsalting of Yan Naing Oo

    [edit]

Hi Davewild I am contacting you because I was interested in moving page Yan Naing Oo (midfielder) to Yan Naing Oo. This is because their really isn't anyone else called Yan Naing Oo so it seems kind of pointless to have a specifier. Yan Naing Oo was deleted in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Yan Naing Oo in which you where the deleting admin, but the subject of the article was recreated in Yan Naing Oo (midfielder). The later article was nominated for deletion but that was struck down, so I thought of moving (the article) to make it simpler. If you think the newer article (Yan Naing Oo (midfielder)) is not notable enough just tell me. Thanks Inter&anthro (talk) 02:15, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Hello Davewild

Regarding the 2015 deletion of William 'Bill' Mehl as not notable. Plz see wiki article on Jack Trice which is, essentially, the sane story: death of a football player due to medical issues prior to penicillin or new antibiotic medicines. Then, years later, a recognition by the University to establish a memorial and increase student/faculty knowledge of the individual. While Valpo is much smaller than Iowa State, the stories are almost identical without the racism aspect. Believe reconsideration is warranted, Thank you BillT — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.249.165.245 (talk) 21:59, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

    [edit]

    Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

    [edit]

    Hi Davewild.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Joseph Burton Lumpkin

    [edit]

Hi there Mr. Dave. Eeeboy, I'm trying to figure out what I did and already left a message for the other editor who flagged my article. (My editor at Harcourt helped me to do my page in 2008, Carol Plum-Ucci, but I don't remember it being so hard!) I'm trying to do a page for a favorite client; I edited his book ~The Books of Enoch:,~ which is now on Amazon's Best Seller List in his category and felt he deserved a page. He attempted to do his own page way back in 2010 (?) without enough concept of your requirements (he lives with Aspergers, which affects his concentration, and I apologize for any confusion he caused back then). I did a very good job on his entry, I believe, posted yesterday, and feel there may be two simple issues: (1) his name and certain facts may be recognized by computer for immediate flagging because the 2010 entry he himself wrote was unacceptable, and (2)I may have hyperlinked in ways that are considered bad form. I did not hyperlink each of his books (even though that was done on my own entry.) Can you provide links or dialogue that could help me provide an acceptable article?

On another front: Somebody added disparaging and untrue information on my own page, Carol Plum-Ucci, listing me as a winner of "worst cliffhanger of 2001" in the category of Awards. There is no such award, and I kinda don't think it's funny. But my first priority is trying to get Joseph a page if possible, so thanks for any help!!

Yours most gratefully, Plumucci (talk) 18:41, 24 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Davewild. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Government of Somaliland, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

    1. edit the page
    2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
    3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

The article Bruno Stagno has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one.
