Welcome to Wikipedia from the Medicine Wikiproject!
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia from Wikiproject Medicine (also known as WPMED).
We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of medical articles here on Wikipedia. One of our members has noticed that you are interested in editing medical articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing Wikipedia articles are:
- Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on our talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the WPMED talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
- Sourcing of medical and health-related content on Wikipedia is guided by our medical sourcing guidelines, commonly referred to as MEDRS. These guidelines typically requires recent secondary sources to support information; its application is further explained here. Primary sources (case studies, case reports, research studies) are rarely used, especially if the primary sources are produced by the organisation or individual who is promoting a claim.
- The Wikipedia community includes a wide variety of editors with different interests, skills, and knowledge. We all manage to get along through a lot of discussion that happens under the scenes and through the bold, edit, discuss editing cycle. If you encounter any problems, you can discuss it on an article's talk page or post a message on the WPMED talk page.
Feel free to drop a note on my talk page if you have any problems. I wish you all the best on your wiki voyages! Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 18:59, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

[edit]In your wonderful article improvement work, could you addEquine metabolic syndrome to your cleanup list? Looks like more new research out there, and it could benefit from explaining the difference between different forms of EMS and how it differs from Cushing’s. About Promptov sign
[edit]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promtov%27s_sign It is hard to find any english articles about it. Some doctors in post-soviet states rarely still mention this "sign". Ranks in taxonomy templates
[edit]Hi, just to note that in a taxonomy template, like Template:Taxonomy/Eucoccidiorida and others you created recently, the rank name must be the Latin term. It may appear to work if you use the English name (e.g. "family" instead of "familia"), but not everything will be working correctly behind the scenes. The automated taxobox system as a whole is described at Wikipedia:Automated taxobox system; there's a list of Latin and English rank names at Wikipedia:Automated taxobox system/taxonomy templates#rank. I'm always happy to help with any aspect of automated taxoboxes if you leave me a note on my talk page. Peter coxhead (talk) 08:28, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. I just started a discussion at talk:Bearded Collie because someone reverted my edit of the redundancy of "puppies and dogs" to the simply inclusive just "dogs." Will you please go there to give us your input, and perhaps revert the reversion? Will you please also have a look at my edit history of all the other cat-and-dog-related edits that I just made and support those corrections too? Thanks! Abbreviations
[edit]Hi. Thanks for your edit. It would be nice if you could spell out your Edit summaries. For example, I don't know what "ef tidy up. url not required if pmc/doi" means, even though I have BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 21:27, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
- It means if there is a permanent identifier like pmc (PubMed Central) id or doi (Digital object identifier) then url is not required, as the permanent links prevent link rot. Not sure that really needs writing in full? If I wrote "ef", I missed the r of "ref", which means reference. DferDaisy (talk) 21:32, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
I saw what you did over at Leviathan, shortening the URL's. If you don't mind my asking, is there some specific automated method or technique for that kind of thing, or is it just something one has to learn by trial and error? Alephb (talk) 02:23, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Alephb: The underlying principles are here: WP:BOOKLINKS. So for this link to page 76: https://books.google.com/books?id=EU7Qt5HSmHAC&pg=PA76 the id of the book is EU7Qt5HSmHAC and the part of the url which links to the page is &pg=PA then the page number is at the end. You don't need anything else after the page number. It don't know if there's a bot that figures this out. DferDaisy (talk) 23:42, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
- That should work out just fine. Thanks. Alephb (talk) 23:51, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Hitro talk 09:54, 13 January 2019 (UTC)Please do not remove access dates
[edit]Please do not remove access dates. They are very good for identifying the author of the specific section. If I see that a source was accessed the 23rd of August 2011 it's very easy to look for edits from that day. Your argument is null that they are uncessary when using ISBN is void, because that also applies to DOIs, but when citing scientific papers it is routine to add date of access regardless. My request to have the List of infectious sheep and goat diseases page reassessed
[edit]Hi DferDaisy,
I'm seeking to have the List of infectious sheep and goat diseases page "reassessed" from stub-class by WikiProject Veterinary medicine. I'm notifying you because I see you have made a number of good edits in the last few years (and thanks for that!), whereas the page has not been formally assessed since 2010, immediately after it was created by user Kleopatra. At that time it was obviously classed as a "Stub", but not so now.
I added the page to the to-be-assessed list here.
- Eldon Rosenberg (talk) 21:23, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Eldon Rosenberg: Hi, it looks like it should be classed as a list, per criteria for list, rather than classified as stub/start etc. I reassessed it as a list. DferDaisy (talk) 23:16, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
- @DferDaisy: Thanks, I think that's useful. Apologies for the newbie question, but is there any official WikiProject mechanism you know of to have it assessed as to its completeness or reliability in a way that is meaningful to Wikipedia users? Eldon Rosenberg (talk) 02:41, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
- @Eldon Rosenberg: Featured content are articles which have gone through a review process. I haven't been involved in creating or reviewing featured content, so I can only give you general advice. The criteria for a featured list are here; List of skin conditions looks like the only list of diseases which is a featured list, so reviewing that may be helpful.
