If you can provide detailed citations for de.wikipedia's info on Rauchenecker, you're welcome to restore your translation with those detailed citations. Otherwise, I'm concerned that at de.wikipedia they just wrote a plausible fiction of the guy's life, knowing that information on him is so sparse that no one would call them on any lies contained therein. Rauchenecker refs

[edit]

Sorry I took so long to reply.

I believe you when you say you have 300 references, mostly in German. And that's the problem for the en.: how can someone reading en.wikipedia verify for himself that the citations are appropriate if they're not available in English and he doesn't know any other language? Maybe you have properly translated and paraphrased what Max Fehr wrote in Aus Wagners Leben und Schaffen. If I don't know a lick of German, I have no way of knowing whether or not that's the case. Yes, Rauchenecker existed, and that much I can verify from the few references available in English, so I wouldn't be lobbying to delete the article even if I was one of those deletionist nuts. Rauchenecker was a composer, he wrote an opera on the Don Quixote story, a couple of symphonies, and a string sextet. Anything more than that and I have to take the word of someone who knows German. I'm willing to take someone's word if it's someone I've met in person. But of a Wikipedia user who could claim to be someone entirely different from who they are (e.g., Essjay), color me skeptical.
