Article Feedback deployment[edit]

Hey Iloilo Wanderer; I'm dropping you this note because you've used the article feedback tool in the last month or so. On Thursday and Friday the tool will be down for a major deployment; it should be up by Saturday, failing anything going wrong, and by Monday if something does :). Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:01, 13 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Iloilo Wanderer,

It seems to me that an article you worked on, Panay Liberation Day, may be copied from http://nonoying.com/news/march-18-is-a-non-working-local-holiday-in-iloilo-panay-and-romblon/. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.

It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.

Thank you for helping build a free encyclopedia! MadmanBot (talk) 11:49, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You did make a mistake. I have never heard of the site that you mentioned. --Iloilo Wanderer (talk) 12:21, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article Feedback Tool update[edit]

Hey Iloilo Wanderer. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:55, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback[edit]

I noticed you tagged a lot of feedback this past day or two, and I disagree with some of the taggings. 1 2 3 don't really seem useful, for example, and 4 wasn't inappropriate, just non-actionable (marking something inappropriate is a request for it to be removed from public view, meaning it needs to meet one of the criteria at WP:FRGH). Jackmcbarn (talk) 13:46, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that 4 is "nonsense" consistent with "Feedback may be marked as 'Inappropriate' if it is nonsense, offensive or spam..." to quote WP:FRG. The other three I thought could be useful depending upon the context, which I did not know. If I am wrong or if people disagree I am sure that they can correct it. It seems to me that most Feedback is unmarked at all and so it is better to mark then to leave it blank. --Iloilo Wanderer (talk) 19:50, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Links[edit]

Hi Wanderer,
You, and perhaps others, need to be careful when you create links, e.g. in Panay Railways#Panay line there was a link to La Paz which just happens to be a city in Bolivia. I changed that to La Paz. There were others like that in the same section and there may yet be in the entire article. Permit me to suggest that when you create a link, you click on it yourself to make sure that it does not link to the wrong article or to a disambiguation page. Correcting faulty links does wonders for the credibility of Wikipedia. Peter Horn User talk 15:03, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks I usually catch those but I guess I was too quick this time. --Iloilo Wanderer (talk) 16:28, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering if we could just make an information table regarding the Filipino Cardinals instead, it would be much easier

There was no footnote for those specific figures. Statistics in particular need to be footnoted. A footnote at the end of the paragraph is not sufficient, especially for statistics, in my opinion. --Iloilo Wanderer (talk) 05:21, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for your recent comments over at Talk:Philippines#Establishment. I had roughly put together a long response but had not posted it because my internet feed had gone down (a not infrequent circumstance outside of Manila). When I was able to get back online, I saw your remarks and decided not to stir the pot further with my long response. That discussion started out being specifically about identifying establishment events of the RP government, and meandered into a discussion about the perceived impact of Filipino revolutionary impact on the outcome of the Spanish-American war and how (or if) that perceived impact should be presented in WP. That is probably a discussion worth having, but it popped up in what seems to me to be an inappropriate venue. I thought about remarking to that effect on the article talk page, but decided that it would be better not to stir the pot further there. Cheers, and thatks again. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 21:42, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I am constantly struggling myself with stirring the pot versus letting comments go unchallenged. I don't always come out on the side of the angels. :) --Iloilo Wanderer (talk) 02:08, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article upgrade assistance request (Pre-translation stage)[edit]

Seasons Greetings,

Hi, i obsrved you have supported article National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (Philippines) well enough. I am looking for support for a relatively new umbrella article on en-wikipedia named Ceremonial pole. Ceremonial pole is a human tradition since ancient times; either existed in past at some point of time, or still exists in some cultures across global continents from north to south & from east to west. Ceremonial poles are used to symbolize a variety of concepts in several different world cultures.

Through article Ceremonial pole we intend to take encyclopedic note of cultural aspects and festive celebrations and dances around Ceremonial pole as an umbrella article and want to have historical, mythological, anthropological aspects, reverence or worships wherever concerned as a small part.

While Ceremonial poles have a long past and strong presence but usually less discussed subject. Even before we seek translation of this article in global languages, we need to have more encyclopedic information/input about Ceremonial poles from all global cultures and languages. And we seek your assistance in the same.

Since other contributors to the article are insisting for reliable sources and Standard native english; If your contributions get deleted (for some reason like linguistics or may be your information is reliable but unfortunately dosent match expectations of other editors) , please do list the same on Talk:Ceremonial pole page so that other wikipedians may help improve by interlanguage collaborations, and/or some other language wikipedias may be interested in giving more importance to reliablity of information over other factors on their respective wikipedia.

This request is made to you since culture related topics may be of intrest to you.

Thanking you with warm regards

ArbCom 2017 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Iloilo Wanderer. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
