Vandalism warnings

Heya, Imperial. I noticed that although you're a very effective vandal fighter (pardon the shameless flattery), you don't appear to leave any warnings on the offending users' talk pages. In order for other users to identify repeat vandals and problem users more easily, you should consider leaving a warning template (a list can be found at WP:TM/UTN) on the user's talk page, usually in a section denoting the current month. User talk:170.252.248.206 is quite a good example of such warnings being issued. Keep up the good work, and hope to see you around more! haz (talk) 21:45, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: 86.166.116.25

I'm fairly certain that the IP has been previously vandalizing from a different IP. The history you referenced is incomplete. Doesn't matter, really. Just was pointing that out, because the first edit was to J's page. Enigma message 17:17, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alice in the Pacific

I am up kinda late here tonight.

You requested some relevant information, its all there. http://search.japantimes.co.jp/print/fm20080321a1.html

Rock2Wgtn is also chock full of information.

Relevant and up-to-date.

My expectations are with high hopes that all this gets resolved one way or another. As you may know, I have been seeing a lot of things that I view as not so moral on Wiki these past days. I originally was just going to give up my Wiki contributions after seeing them wiped off. Wiki should be about things that are progressed for the reader. I hope you do a tremendous job on what you wish to do here on Wiki.

I want to stay here. I hope you can clear the nonsense that led to me almost leaving for good. Efforts wiped away for no good a reason is practically stressful or bordering on it. Rolling up the towel on Wiki should not be an option for anyone with a mature mind. Editors have no right to claim that they are living in anger or making claims that they are better. I was surprised to read that. Do you agree with what has been going on lately? Do you think this is the way a Wikipedia editor should be handled? Can you see or recognize the on-going problem here? This is about being set as a target from an editor on Wikipedia. In my world it is called juvenile. Abnormally wrong to be associated as an editor on this site.

Alot of faith in you, Imperial Dark Star.

Thank you Electric Japan (talk) 17:51, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK

Well, its too bad that a lock can't be put on some text like on some other articles. Once an individual passes on there is only so much you can add to his lifestyle. Anyway, I appreciate your words at this time. I use to be energentically happy to contribute here. I am a writer and find it relaxing to add things that I know about these past years. My hope and expectations are just to remain on here with no issues. There should be no reason for anything like that to happen on this open encylopedia. It was embarrassing to have to bring it up to you and the other fella on Wikipedia. An administrator should watch those two editors with a hawks eye. I would never claim to be an editor doing that kind of irresponsible edits. It only drives people away and give this site a bad image. That is not what Wikipedia wants.

Thanks! Electric Japan (talk) 18:05, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, you've been here long enough to know that additions, especially to biographical articles, must be backed up by a reliable source. Also, this statement, "In the spring of 2008, Alice returned to the Pacific region after years of anticipation from fans. Alice Cooper, flew from Melbourne, Australia, where he performed two successful concerts before continuing on to a huge rock Festival in Wellington" is riddled with peacock terms. --NeilN talkcontribs 18:16, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:PEACOCK. Things like "after years of anticipation" and "successful concerts" need to be sourced from neutral third party sources. --NeilN talkcontribs 18:27, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The source does not mention anything about his upcoming concert schedule nor does it use the terms I described above. I noticed you undid my edit - are you going to improve the addition? --NeilN talkcontribs 18:33, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How about this: "In the spring of 2008, Cooper returned to the Pacific region. The Japan Times asked him on this latest theatrical tour, "Alice what took you so long to return?" Alice replied back, "Hauling the gallows around is pretty expensive." It took twenty some odd years for the singer to return to the country. Full interview located here.[[1]]" --NeilN talkcontribs 18:37, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I made the edit (similar to what I proposed). Hopefully it's a good compromise. --NeilN talkcontribs 18:44, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Willy on Wheels

Willy on Wheels was probably the most notable chronic page-move vandal. He was fond of appending "on wheels" (and various other things) to the titles dozens of articles at a time. Initially it seems to have been a single person operating many accounts, but sooner or later other folks began to take up the same tactic and it became less obvious who the 'real' Willy was. We tried to ban him for a while but this turned out not to make much sense: obviously any account that began moving pages in the Willy style would be blocked at once anyway, and we would have no way to detect, nor indeed any objection to, Willy's creating a regular account to use for non-vandalous edits. Eventually, like most vandals, he got bored and went away. (Or perhaps he began making legitimate edits -- heck, he might be an administrator now.) — Dan | talk 19:00, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In re Willy - he actually left Wikipedia after it saved him from failing a university course. IINM, he left a note on the mailing list asking forgiveness; I believe it was linked to in AN/I or its bigger brother AN sometime within this past month. (Apologies for the necromancy) -Jéské (v^_^v E pluribus unum) 16:47, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Surprisingly, User:Willy on Wheels is not the 'original'. It seems that particular account was never actually used for vandalism, though many accounts with similar names were. The page User:Willy on Wheels, which at first had no corresponding user, was used to keep track of blocked accounts used for Willy-style vandalism until it was deleted in the VFD you have no doubt found; I guess the username was not created until the VFD itself. I came across the account a month or so later and blocked it for good measure. — Dan | talk 06:28, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's obvious, I can't win here with the regulars. I will continue monitoring Wikipedia. I put in a big effort here, a lot of my time as well. They do love yanking chains here. I am eager to avoid any involvement with the young ones. I just see things on here being thwarted by a few music fans. I try to keep away from unusual situations involving young people in deeply to that genre of music.

I did find it hysterical. We'll talk later, okay. Thanks for the messages.

Well obviously I'm a vandal (although I'm on a vandal's vacation at the moment). My point is that you lot completely screw up all of your sockpuppet pages - me and Zippycup are different people. Japanese

Hello. It is another late night here. My wife saw what you wrote. Nice work. I am too busy in Japan to pick up the language like you. How long did it take you to pick that up. I am not a Japanaholic. I just got here in a series of events. I have traveled around the globe a few times and thought Japan was the best suited for me. It ain't easy here by a long shot.

Anyway, I have another issue with this character User:Indopug. it has potential to get worse. What is up with this guy?

Who is this? Now he's tinkering with the Cheap Trick page. I am baffled at his obsessions. I broke out laughing when he gave his reason for fiddling with it.

I'm telling you this is just cracking me up. He has no idea how significant this concert was for the band. Thirty years! It was an anniversary concert. The fact is that if it wern't for Japan there would be no Cheap Trick now. I've seen this band countless times and have spoken to them about the importance of the Budokan and Japan to the group.

What am I doing in a place like this?

Electric Japan (talk) 17:42, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again for the message, you had me fooled. The language is very complex and not useful to me. All I need to know is how to converse with the people. And that is something more all together.

Thanks, Electric Japan (talk) 05:43, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For the record - this user should not have been blocked

Please note that on 18:32, 8 June 2008, I momentarily blocked this user: It was a mistake on my part; the mistake was recorded in the block log and I am recording it here as well. I was in the process of blocking a user that had vandalized this user's page when I made the error. I apologize for any inconvenience. Toddst1 (talk) 18:36, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hello Imperial Star Destroyer, I had a look through some of your recent reverts of vandalism, and they looked quite good. Would you like me to grant your account rollback rights to make vandal-fighting easier for you? Just remember that rollback, if granted, should only be used to revert vandalism, and should not be used to revert good-faith, and certainly should not be used to revert-war either: misuse or abuse can lead to the tool being taken away. Tell me what you think: it'll help you revert vandalism much more easily. Thanks. Acalamari 01:59, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted. :) For practice, you may wish to see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback. Good luck. Acalamari 15:28, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Two reasons: 1)It's malformed. 2)You don't have even 500 edits. Someone with less than 500 edits will have no chance of passing an RfA in today's RfA climate. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
