    Capitalising headings

    [edit]

I have reverted your change to Huddersfield Town A.F.C. You added capitals where they were not needed, this is only a minor error, so don't feel insulted. I suggest you read Wikipedia:Manual of Style (capital letters) to avoid similar errors in future. If you have any questions then don't hesitate to ask on my talk page. MichaelBillington 07:52, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the article Huddersfield Town F.C. - Results for 2005/06 season to meet the capitalisation style. Thank you for creating it. BlueValour 16:48, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    See also

    [edit]

For a 'see also' it is better to use the template as here: {{seealso|Huddersfield Town F.C. - Results for 2005/06 season}} . BlueValour 16:48, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    Professional footballers

    [edit]

Thank you for your great work on Town's players. I have been adding 'professional' before 'footballer'. This is not a quibble but is needed to meet WP:BIO in case some self-appointed wikilawyer spots the article. Please add this to any other article you create/have created.

A further small point, it is not current good practice to wikify dates unless the year is special e.g. formation of the club and someone might want to find out what else happened that year.

Please get straight on to me with any queries. BlueValour 00:35, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    Template:Huddersfield Town F.C. squad

    [edit]

I reverted your edit to Template talk:Football squad2 start and moved the content to Template:Huddersfield Town F.C. squad. You can add the template to the bottom of each Huddersfield player's article by adding {{Huddersfield Town F.C. squad}} in the appropriate position.  SLUMGUM  yap  stalk   14:30, 15 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    Edit summary

    [edit]

Thank you for your ongoing excellent contributions.

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

    Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. BlueValour 17:13, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Using the {{fc}} template

    [edit]

When you put the {{fc}} template into an article, you should be sure to prefix it with subst. The resulting links will be the same, and it requires less work by the computing servers whenever a page is accessed. So, instead of {{fc|Arsenal}}, you would put {{subst:fc|Arsenal}}. See the Template talk:Fc page for more info. Regards. Neier 11:02, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Man Utd 50 greatest players

    [edit]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Manchester United F.C. - 50 Greatest Players Of All Time, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

Would be good if you could come up with some notable independent references to this list and cite some sources on its factual accuracy. The article is also completely useless without a date to give it historical context. --JamesTheNumberless 18:21, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, many thanks for creating this template - it is a great idea. I have removed it from category pages, where templates are not used, and from Leeds Road since it is against policy to have such templates on disambiguation pages (and for that reason I have removed Leeds Road from the template). However, if you feel moved to make a Leeds Road (stadium) article that would be a splendid way forward. I have also reshaped the template since it looks better on pages when wider rather than deeper. I have pointed Players to the relevant section in the main article (to be consistent with the approach that you took with Managers) and split the seasons, adding the template to each season. I have also added the template to each FA Cup article. HTH. BlueValour 21:31, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Huddersfield Town F.C. season 2007-08, by PeeJay2K3 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Huddersfield Town F.C. season 2007-08 fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

because the subject matter is non-notable and can be found on any football website

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Huddersfield Town F.C. season 2007-08, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Huddersfield Town F.C. season 2007-08 itself. A tag has been placed on Ryan Crossley, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as articles for deletion. If you can indicate how Ryan Crossley is different from the previously posted material, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article, and also put a note on Talk:Ryan Crossley saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 4 under General criteria. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. We welcome your help in trying to improve Wikipedia, and we request you to follow these instructions. EliminatorJR Talk 18:33, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your message posted on the talk page:

He may not be such a famous footballer, but he is part of the history of the 4 football teams in his article and has been playing football for them, so that is why he shouldn't be deleted.

Unfortunately he fails our notability guidelines and the article has previously been deleted after an articles for deletion debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ryan Crossley, where you will find the comments of other editors which will help explain further why it has been deleted. Let me know if you have any questions, mattbr 21:49, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Notability of Zoltán Lipták

    [edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Zoltán Lipták, by Svetovid (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Zoltán Lipták seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Zoltán Lipták, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. A tag has been placed on Alex Smith (footballer born 1947) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Hi there. You wrote this article about Tompkin some time ago - but had no deathdate attached to him. According to Cricket Archive, Maurice Tompkin died in 1956. See here.

    Football player updates

    [edit]

Hi there. Just to let you know, when updating football players' league appearances, you can use five tilde characters (~) in the pcupdate and ntupdate fields to give the correct date updates. Peanut4 (talk) 22:28, 24 October 2008 (UTC) That's OK, my friend, shame you're a Bradford City supporter, considering I'm a Huddersfield Town fan, but hopefully Tom Clarke will help you out a bit. Alfred Brookes Sharman

    [edit]

Hi, a friend of mine is writing a biography of his father, Alfred Brookes Sharman. Sharman played for Town in the 20s, but possibly only in the reserves. I wonder if you would check your record books to see if you can find any trace, please? If it turns out that he got a first team game then I can do a WP page, of course. Smile a While (talk) 23:19, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid that my sources have no record of an "Alfred Brookes Sharman" playing in the first team, because I was so busy over Christmas 2007 and the New Year 2008 putting up the record of every player who played in Town's first team, but I just double-checked to make sure I didn't overlook him. Does that mean you don't own a copy of 99 Years & Counting, the Town book? Do you not live in this country? JRRobinson (talk) 13:44, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks for checking. Smile a While (talk) 01:32, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Adam Wilson (footballer)

An article that you have been involved in editing, Adam Wilson (footballer), has been listed for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adam Wilson (footballer). Hi, noticed your change to his year of birth. My Birmingham sources say 1902, but Joyce's Football League Player Records has 1901, so I'm happy to go with the majority, at least until someone comes up with his birth certificate to prove it one way or the other :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:02, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Dates

    [edit]

Just a quick note to let you know that dates are no longer linked. Peanut4 (talk) 20:32, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Just another quick reminder. See MOS:UNLINKDATES. Thanks. Peanut4 (talk) 21:01, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That seems slightly silly, it's as harmless as harmlessness. JRRobinson (talk) 21:08, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I didn't make the rules. I'm just pointing out that it's no longer seen as necessary to link dates. Peanut4 (talk) 21:15, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Remember you can use five tilde (~) characters in the date fields when you update the statistics. Peanut4 (talk) 00:07, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Jack Wheeler

    [edit]

Hi, noticed you'd added Kettering apps to the infobox and was wondering if you were sure that figure was just league apps? I know this gives 47 apps, but if he was only there for that one season, that must be all competitions, they only played 42 in the Southern League. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:58, 10 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. In line with other clubs' templates, I have split the list of seasons out of {{Huddersfield Town F.C.}} and created {{Huddersfield Town F.C. seasons}}. Unfortunately, this means having to replace all instances of the former on the Huddersfield Town seasons articles with the latter. I wonder if you might be able to do a few of these for me. I can do some myself, but I also have a fair few of my own tasks to be done. – PeeJay 22:13, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On second thought, why don't I just request that bot do it? In fact, if I got a bot to do it, I could also get the hyphens in the article titles changed to endashes, thereby killing two birds with the metaphorical solitary stone. That OK with you? – PeeJay 22:14, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's a very good idea man! You get the thumbs up from me. JRRobinson (talk) 22:23, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    DYK for Jack Wheeler

    [edit]
Updated DYK query On January 17, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Jack Wheeler, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

    Dates

    [edit]

Can I once again please remind you not to link dates. See MOS:UNLINKDATES for more information. Peanut4 (talk) 19:53, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You clearly still haven't read the guidelines. Please stop linking dates quite unnecessarily. Peanut4 (talk) 21:03, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just pointing out this notice again as I saw you did on a few articles, would be helpful if you stopped linking dates. Cheers, --Jimbo[online] 10:35, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Huddersfield Town F.C. graph

    [edit]

Hi JRR, more than happy to make you a graph. I think I have all of the data I need for clubs in the English League. I'll try and make one this weekend for you - if you email me at [email protected] I'll send you a first draft.--Payo (talk) 14:09, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    - first club to be updated to 2009! I'll add it to the Huddersfield Town F.C. page but you better check that it is in a good place. Let me know if you want anything changed - slightly worried that the blue isn't light enough. Anyway Sorry about the delay! :-) --Payo (talk) 17:29, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Harry Taylor (footballer)

    [edit]

Hi there. I was looking through a list of articles, checking stuff, and I noticed this. The birth date you put there is 1960, but the article says 1889. Did you mean to put the date of death? If not, it'll just need correcting, but if it is the year of death then the article needs a bit of tidying (add and removing the related categories). Proposed deletion of Andy Jeffery

    [edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Andy Jeffery, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

No record here or here of him ever having played. No info on google. Fails WP:ATHLETE and WP:N

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. August 2009

    [edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Holly Walsh a different title by copying its content and pasting it into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other articles that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. TalkIslander 00:46, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can only assume you keep changing the date format and bolding the inverted commas in his name on purpose, and for that you must have a reason. Therefore, my only question is: what is the reason for you to make these changes? The inverted commas are not part of his name, so I see no reason for them to be bolded, and the guy is English, so it makes perfect sense for the date format used in the article to be the international format (DD MMM YYYY) and not the nonsensical American format (MMM DD, YYYY). – PeeJay 23:35, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Please don't ignore my messages. Thanks. – PeeJay 20:18, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You may prefer a certain method, but since Drinkwater is British, we should stick to the British date format in his article. Furthermore, I was originally told by another editor (possibly User:Daemonic Kangaroo) that the inverted commas shouldn't be bolded, so it's a habit that I've gotten into. I have brought the issue up at WT:MOSBIO if you'd care to have a look at the comment I've left there. – PeeJay 21:35, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Proposed deletion of Mitchell Bailey

    AYAE

    [edit]

It may not have been your intention, but you recently reverted an apparently constructive edit on Are You an Egghead?. Please be careful not to undo the efforts of others to improve the article without a good reason, which should be stated in the edit summary. Thank you. -- Smjg (talk) 10:58, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You did it again. Please, either give your reason for reinstating the unfilled sections, or don't do it. -- Smjg (talk) 12:24, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The reason is that they don't need to be hidden. There is no reason for them to be hidden. It's just pointless. JRRobinson (talk) 20:31, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JRRobinson! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 31 of the articles that you created are Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons.
