Album tracklisting

[edit]

Hey! It's great to see someone taking an interest in contributing to Tool albums, but I'd like to point you to Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums. It's been decided to use quotation marks for song titles and a dash for the song duration. I hope that clears up my reverts. No hard feelings, ok? Tiefighter 29 June 2005 12:33 (UTC)

Hey Jubella. Saw the pic you took on Dallas Green and decided to let you know about the Neverending White Lights. 'The Grace' is a #1 Hit here on Toronto's alt. rock radio station - CFNY (The Edge) right now. Just thought you would like to know!

Cheers,

Saw a bunch of links to it and it didn;t exist yet so I made a stub for Spitalfield -- go ahead and conribute to it if you want. DreamGuy 09:44, August 11, 2005 (UTC)

Hi there...I see you're relatively new, so you may not be all that familiar with Wikipedia rules for article categorization. Just so that you know, the rule is that articles aren't filed simultaneously in both a category and a subcategory of that category. Which means that if Alexisonfire are filed in Category:Canadian hardcore punk bands, then we don't also put them in Category:Canadian musical groups, Category:Punk rock groups or Category:Rock music groups. Instead, we file the "Canadian hardcore punk groups" category as a subcategory of "Canadian musical groups" and "Punk rock groups", and "punk rock groups" as a subcategory of "Rock groups". It keeps the category system a lot less confusing if we don't file everything in a dozen categories that duplicate each other. Bearcat 01:55, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging Image:DallasTalk.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:DallasTalk.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL-self to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Thanks for uploading Image:TheBledNew.jpeg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: TemplateName.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

Album covers

[edit]

Hi Jubella. I notice that you've uploaded at least two album covers which you've tagged as licenced under GFDL, but this is incorrect - these images are still copyrighted, so you can't grant other people the rights to distribute them. Album or single covers for which fair use is claimed can be tagged as albumcover. I've amended Image:Itlohe.jpg and Image:Roabps.jpg - please could you update any other album covers that you've uploaded? Let me know if you're unsure about anything! Thanks. Johnny Truant album categorisation

Hello. I just noticed that you reinstated Category:Rock albums to the article The Repercussions of a Badly Planned Suicide. Album genre categories, according to Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums#Categories, are to be placed under artist album categories -- for instance Category:Johnny Truant albums. Album Genres

[edit]

I believe in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums it says organise albums bt genre, so why are you going around removing albums from genres they belong in? Jubella 21:37, 14 April 2006 (UTC)Jubella[reply]

This excerpt from WikiProject_Albums#Categories explains it best: Category:Slayer albums is a sub-category of Category:Albums by artist and Category:Thrash metal albums, which is a sub-category of Category:Albums by genre. So, from top level to bottom level, it goes:
1. Category:Albums by genre → 2. Category:Thrash metal albums → 3. Category:Slayer albums → 4. Reign in Blood
1. Category:Albums by artist → 2. Category:Slayer albums → 3. Reign in Blood
In the first list, Reign in Blood does not go directly in Category:Thrash metal albums, but is there via the intermediate category Category:Slayer albums.
The coding example at WikiProject_Albums#Categories did not include the category Category:Thrash metal albums. It simply had Category:Slayer albums and Category:1986 albums. Also, note that Category:Slayer albums contains the category Category:Thrash metal albums, as it should.
From a maintenance perspective, placing album genre categories such as Category:Rock albums directly in artist album categories (such as Category:Oasis albums) makes sense and is standard protocol. It would be redundant to place Category:Rock albums in Definitely Maybe when it already exists in Category:Oasis albums. In a way, when you place Definitely Maybe in Category:Oasis albums, you are indirectly categorizing it as Category:Rock albums.
I hope this clears things up again. Sorry I had to revert some of your work. I do appreciate the other contributions that you've been making. ;-) Mattbrundage 05:43, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

Hi, please don't pipe link the categories on the article unless necessary (Wikipedia:Piped link explains it in the paragraph that begins "In the case of a category link, ..."). It is only necessary if the article should be categorized under a different letter than what the article title suggests — e.g. , but not . In the latter instance would suffice. I reverted your edits to the Talk Is Cheap (EP) article, please see how it's done in the revision history. Hello. Just wanted to ask you why did you placed and on Nick Barkers page. I apologize for my lack of knowledge but if he's from England than that he is also a British musician is somehow implicated by itself. If he is Englishman than he is also Britishman. I hope you understood what i0m trying to say with my babel! Thanks. Death2 19:29, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problemos. I just don't like when an article has 500 categoryes and only a few lines in the article! See ya. Death2 19:35, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bother you again, but what's with all the categories? Who is going to look at them anyway they are too big, and why is it important which is the first, second, 3rd, 4th album or whatever. Those things are obvious from the discography list! Death2 21:27, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. About some Top Model pages...

[edit]

Hey, I was just looking at some top model contestant pages, most notably Ebony Taylor's page, and you said that she was eliminated ep 2. When I changed that to ep 3, though, you reverted it back to ep 2. I just kinda wanted to clarify this w/ you: It goes like this for Cycle 5:

Episode 1: Finalists are chosen Ep 2: Ashley Eliminated Ep 3: Ebony eliminated

K? No hard feelings..

License tagging for Image:Burnoutalbum.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Burnoutalbum.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Thanks for uploading Image:222632102 l.jpg.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sherool (talk) 22:34, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Debut album (Re: Waking Ashland's CDs)

[edit]

Please read the debut album article. If you apply the term "debut" as haphazardly as this, you might as well call every release of a band a debut — which happens a lot, as most records introduce some kind of factor to a band (new member, new record label, etc.). A true "debut album" though — according to the article — "is the first released music album by an artist or a band". As EPs are considered albums as well in the context of categories (EPs are also listed e.g. in Category:Waking Ashland albums), it is wrong to list Composure as Waking Ashland's debut album (and thus in Category:Debut albums). --HarryCane 20:17, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

Please note that when images of bands are released by their label to promote the band, the labels usually do not "irrevocably released all rights" and therefore tagging them with NoRightsReserved is inappropiate. Please stop uploading images with that tag. Same goes for contestants on America's Next Top Model. It's becoming really annoying that almost every time I look for images with wrong copyright tags I come across something you uploaded.

And when uploading album cover art, please add the image's source as well as the copyright information, as descibed on the album cover fair use tag.--Fritz S. (Talk) 20:33, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just because the images are available online does not mean the copyright holder has released all rights to them. Promotional photos are usually still copyrighted by the label, but they can be used under fair use (please see Wikipedia:Fair use); promotional or promophoto are the appropriate tags for band photos. See also Wikipedia:Publicity photos. --Fritz S. (Talk) 09:19, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Album stubs

[edit]

Would you mind telling me why you tagged all Allister albums as stubs? --HarryCane 17:39, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:Stub as you apparently don't know what a stub is. The article for Before the Blackout for example has credits, producers and musicians listed, engineers are not supposed to be listed, so there is absolutely no reason to tag it a stub. Same goes for the other two albums (which all list the producers by the way). Because even if those things were missing in the article, lacking one or two negligible pieces of information does not make an article a stub. Please do your research before you start tossing stub and wrong category tags on good articles, because at the moment your messy edits generate more work cleaning them up than they constructively contribute to Wikipedia. --HarryCane 18:05, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
