User talk:Moochocoogle

Hi.

I added an entry under the word "popscene" regarding a major Britpop club of the Nineties. I've been researching the topic for an upcoming book and noticed wiki didn't have anything on the subject.

Jusy wondered why it was deleted?

Regards, Jason Klinston

Hello,

I noticed that you joined Wikipedia about a month ago. Welcome! I've seen your work on Blur / British culture articles and found it to be very good. Please keep it up!

Sincerely,

Acegikmo1 01:40, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Thanks, I'm still finding my feet here. It's nice to be recocnised.--Moochocoogle 00:39, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome!

Thanks, I'm still kinda new to the site. There's a lot of music stuff I'll end up working on when I have the time.

Electric Six

[edit]

Did you see Electric Six at the Solus on Thursday? I ask 'cause I note your edits both at their article and the Radio Ga Ga one; of course, if you're more of a Queen fan maybe you wouldn't have gone...

  • No, I didn't go to see Electric Six (I'm not really a fan) but my odd housemates did (one of them was wearing a wetsuit - no, really, he was). --Moochocoogle 02:24, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)

David Bowie albums

[edit]

Album titles in italics? Why? And why you've edited only two albums? There are twenty more to do

Avel791 19:10, May 28, 2005 (UTC)

Album titles always go in italics (see Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums). As for why only two: I'm afraid I don't have infinate wiki-time and can't do everything in one go. --Moochocoogle 22:26, 29 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blur - copyvio

[edit]

Hello, I notice you've done a lot of work on Blur. I just noticed that large swathes of the article are directly plagiarized from the Allmusic.com article on Blur. This seems to have been done by User:Painbearer, although I'm not completely certain. Thought I should let you know, since you've done a lot of work on the page. john k 02:27, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Uh, Painbearer. I would expect he is the culprit as I have found copyvios from him before. The article is quite big and changing it is going to be a big task. Thanks for the info - I'll see what I can do. --Moochocoogle 13:54, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Beatles Singles

[edit]

Hi Moochocoogle. Recently you have been removing Beatles singles from the category "The Beatles Songs" and placing them in the category "The Beatles Singles." I think it's a great idea to categorize their singles so they're easy to access together, but perhaps it would be best to also leave them in categorized as Beatles songs. After all, a Beatles single is a Beatles song. Okay, that's all. Thanks!

Yes, but you could put any article in its category's parent category. The categories are a tree and i think it's fairly clear that X artist's singles would be in the sucategory labelled X singles inside X songs. --Moochocoogle 29 June 2005 18:19 (UTC)

I can see your reason for merging and re-directing the 88 version of AoS to the earlier version. I've reverted the edits as they both have their own places in the discography and timeline, it is not just a re-issue case. Alf 15:14, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You might have noticed that cover versions of a song don't even get their own articles, individual releases of a song by the same artist really don't deserve their own articles. The live singles articles contained little information. I'm listing your live articles on VfD to solve this dispute. --Moochocoogle 22:12, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Tell truth, your redirects were poor, you removed lyrics, pictures and formats. VfD as a reply is a bit knee-jerkey. Alf 11:37, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies, you did merge, you didn't state why anywhere, the merges, as they were, were just too confusing (IMHO), had you pointed me to the ongoing discussion you are involved in, I might have not reverted so quick, however I hope the current weight of opinions on their VfDs makes you aware I am not in the minority in viewing these particular things as individual articles, whatever rules are agreed on. Alf 23:54, 15 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, communication is not one of my strong points. I did say what i was doing in the edit summary but i probably should have commented on the discussion page. I still believe that one article is best in this case and will continue to argue for it. Maybe we should have this debate in full on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Songs talk page. --Moochocoogle 11:59, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A question about templates

[edit]

I saw that the article of The Beatles, Blur, and others have a template with some pics (Beatles only) and information about the band members, managers, producers, etc. very useful indeed. This box is also used in every release they had. So, I wonder whether it would be possible to do the same thing with other less popular bands. If that’s the case, I would be really grateful if you could point me to the right direction so that I could learn how to create this box for other bands. I have no idea how to copy the format. WikiProject Songs

[edit]

Hi. I've created a new infobox, Template:Single infobox2, and have started a discussion about it at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Songs#New_single_infobox. I was wondering if you could comment on it, as you seem to contribute to that WikiProject a lot. Also, another user has expressed some concerns over this edit you made recently to the guidelines of the WikiProject, and has started a discussion here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Songs#EM.2C_don.27t_revert_.28neautrality.29. Song categories (Tony Bennett, Billie Holiday, etc)

[edit]

Thanks for clearing up the sort order, I'd forgotten to do that. Cdyson37 | (Talk) 14:35, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I quite like organising categories. :P --Moochocoogle 14:37, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I got a small question, what's Category:Þeyr songs supposed to be about? -- (drini|) 01:40, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No idea what Þeyr is - there's no article for the artist/band. But Category:Þeyr singles was already there and to fit with the conventions of the songs project I created a parent category. --Moochocoogle 16:14, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Thanks for creating the picture gallery for the covers I uploaded. I couldn't think of what to do with all those variations but put them into the infobox. Fantailfan 01:00, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No probs - it is nice to include all the different covers. Keep up the good work. --Moochocoogle 01:05, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

sockpuppets

[edit]

Hi Moochocoogle, has anyone ever accused you of being a sockpuppet before, particularly of Wonderfool? I've noticed that we have quite an overlap of material we're writing about, and are both from similar places. --Thewayforward 10:18, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, I've never been accused of being a sockpuppet. --Moochocoogle 17:52, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

sorry you missed the debate

[edit]

I left the debate out in several places for over a month before putting it up on CfD, hoping to catch everyone's opinions before we proceeded one way or the other. I should've expected that someone wouldn't see it, but I never imagined it would be the Singles by artist structure's creator. Anyway, as you can see, a lot of people found the split confusing and difficult to maintain, and I expect that would be true for ALL schemes that broke up Songs by artist. So I can't say I support the split you propose either. But by all means bring it up on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Songs and see what people say.--Mike Selinker 01:06, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cover Songs

[edit]

You recently left a comment regarding the poor state of the List of cover songs by artist page. I agree that it is in shambles and I aim to do something about it. I am, however, at a loss as to how exactly to organize it and if I should possibly consider a name revision. Thoughts?

I left similar comments on its discussion page as well but was unsure if you'd see them. I am in need of assistance here and since you've edited mostly music (as have I) I figured you'd be able to help.

License tagging for Image:Parallel Universe.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Parallel Universe.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:12, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Blur_Beetlebum_CD1.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Blur_Beetlebum_CD1.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 02:50, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Take me out cd single.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Parallel Universe.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Parallel Universe.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NotifyBot (talk) 13:22, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:Paranoid Android CD2.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image which is not under a free license or in the public domain and it has not been used in any article for more than seven days.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Paranoid Android CD2.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for uploading Image:VEGC album cover.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Speedy deletion of Threatmantics

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Threatmantics requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. FYI, I read your talkpage rationale, and future notability doesn't hold water around here. I'd be happy to userify the page if you wish, you can then move it to the mainspace once the band meets the notability guidelines. tedder (talk) 02:08, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Disregard that! I made one more pass through the page, and realized it is notable under rule #6 of WP:BAND, "# Is an ensemble which contains two or more independently notable musicians, or is a musician who has been a member of two or more independently notable ensembles." tedder (talk) 02:13, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:5 Doctors DVD original cvr.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-free DVD cover art used in a decorative manner in The Five Doctors#Commercial releases. Non-free cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about the work in question, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular DVD cover anywhere in the article, so there's no justification provided for its non-free use.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Doctor Who Survival DVD.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Doctor Who Survival DVD.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 12:33, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
