Greetings. I need the assistance of someone who knows Czech. Someone has claimed that the article on Straza (specifically this edit) is a copyright violation, because it is a machine translation of the text on [1]. Is the text on that page Czech? Can you verify that the one is simply a translation of the other? Thanks so much, – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 16:57, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
- I see the article has already been deleted, so just FYI: No, the text on the page is not Czech, I guess Romanian (which I do not speak). --Mormegil 11:47, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Civic certificate
[edit]IMHO this is impossible to translate and the "civic certificate" cannot be understand by native English (which I could only guess). Pavel Vozenilek 23:24, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed, I did not try to come with an understandable translation of the term ("identity card" is enough for that), but rather to provide a word-by-word translation. I agree my first idea is not too good, so, if you have any better, go ahead. --Mormegil 16:07, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Proliferation Page
[edit]Hey, I've been deleting sections on the list of states with nuclear weapons page. This is part of an ongoing discussion we've been having on the discussion page, which we have been discussing for months. Please do not tag this as vandalism and undo our edits. These deletions are part of a discussion we've had since March, which you can see in the discussion page. CP Guy, July 17, 2007.
- For future:
- When writing to somebody’s talkpage, add your message to the bottom (you can use the “+” button at the header of the page for that).
- When you are cleaning a page by removing large portions of it (presumably moving them elsewhere), it is especially important to properly enter an edit summary, mentioning why you did it (at least e.g. “cleaning, see talk page”). It is even more important when you are doing that as an anonymous (not logged-in) user.

I'd like to chat with you about Wikipedia of your language. Would you kindly drop me your email or IM (Skype, MSN, AIM or ICQ)? It wouldn't take more than ten minutes, but it would help enormous for us to understand the overall trust-based social landscape of Wikipedia. Thank you!

Endianness Article
[edit]Mormegil,
It would be nice if we could get the image titles, such as the one you just created, to agree in spelling with the article itself: Endianness (which is 'endian-ness'; with a 'double n'). I've tried to get the attention of the original diagram's author on this, to no avail. Daniel B. Sedory 21:48, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- I am not exactly sure what you are referring to. I did not create any image, I have only tagged the Image:Endianessmap.jpg as {{BadJPEG}}, {{ShouldBeSVG}}, somebody (User:Slashme) fulfilled the request, uploaded commons:Image:Endianessmap.svg, and tagged the image as {{Vector version available}}. So finally, I have replaced the image in the article with the shiny new SVG version (and copied the description text from the image description page for the JPEG version to the description page of the vector version).
- If you are referring to the image name “Endianessmap.svg”, the only thing that can be done is to reupload the file to Commons under a corrected name and mark the current version for speedy deletion with {{duplicate}}. (There is no image rename in MediaWiki.)

[edit]Hello, I found your name listed at Wikimedia Embassy for the Czech Wikipedia, and I was wondering if you could help me.
I just now combined all of my usernames on the various Wikipedias into a unified login account. The problem is that there is a user on the Czech Wikipedia with my username that has an edit count of zero. I would like to usurp the account, but I wouldn't know who to contact. Orphaned non-free media (File:Sparta logo.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Sparta logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:27, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Miroslav Smotlacha - thank you!
[edit]Hi, Mormegil,
Thanks for your help with the Miroslav Smotlacha article. You were very kind to say my complete lack of any Czech at all were just typos. My guess is that "Mykologickém sborníku" would be literally translated into English as something like "at an Mycology to the gives institute". English has lost most of its inflections but its spelling is just crazy. <Sigh>. Why can't we all just speak Italian? OK, so there are a few irregular verbs, but aside from that, it's Esperanto with an empire, a renaissance and a whole lotta operas.
Ahem. Could you possibly have a look at the article on the CS wikipedia? Your advice and help would be most appreciated.--Shirt58 (talk) 14:02, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
- You’re right, “Mykologickém sborníku” is an inflected form, more specifically locative case, i.e. “in Mytologický sborník” = “v Mytologickém sborníku”. The article on the Czech Wikipedia seems quite fine, and since this is not really my pet topic, I do not have much to add, I was just passing by. :-) --Mormegil (talk) 17:47, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
1993 world championship
[edit]Thanks for your clarification on the Czech hockey jersey. I watched the bronze medal game that year, and I remember it quite well as being only Czech Republic. I was wondering if you know anyone who knows why Anton Statsny played in the olympic qualifiers, but did not play in the olympics themselves. Canadian television alluded to some issue about him (during the overtime loss to Russia) but I only half heard it, and could never find any information on what was said, or why Peter was there and he was not. Cheers.18abruce (talk) 23:23, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
- The Czech article (and an article at hokej.cz) states he cross-checked a referee during a friendly match in 1994, was penalized with an eight-month suspension, so he decided to end his career. --Mormegil (talk) 10:26, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you. Just a note, the IIHF media guide and record book lists Slovakia as joining April 28th 1993--the middle of the world championships. I believe it is one of several errors in the book, but someone may bring this up as an argument at some point. FYI--IIHF web site says they joined Feb 2 1993.18abruce (talk) 02:12, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Invitation to events in June and July: bot, script, template, and Gadget makers wanted
[edit]I invite you to the yearly Berlin hackathon, 1-3 June. Registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, then please register by May 1st and mention it in the registration form.
This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, teaching, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.
We want to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!
I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.
Check out the the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC and our other events.
Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation Volunteer Development Coordinator 21:27, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Mormegil.
Yesterday, I have modified the SaltOs name to SaltOS (the second S must be uppercase) and waiting to the definitive Wikipedia page that speaks about SaltOS, too I have modified the link to redirect to the http://www.saltos.net (the home page of the SaltOS project), and today, you revert this 2 changes. what is the reason? I'm new in the wikipedia and I have to learn the laws.

The campaign is starting next week, and since there have been quite a few changes, I would highly appreciate your help to proofread, in order to insure that we have quality translations. Would you be able to dedicate a few minutes to helping me with this? Below are links to the translations. I kindly ask you to click on the checkbox button as you go through the texts to mark them as proofread. THANK YOU very much for your valuable support. - Erm, I don’t think I did not respect such a request anywhere… I believe {{Now Commons Also Local}} is a combination of {{Keep local}}+{{Now Commons}}’s link to the Commons image page. It uses basically the same language about the “Keep local” part, while also showing explicitly the file does exist on Commons already. Oh, now I see User:FastilyBot then replaced the {{Now Commons Also Local}} with just {{Now Commons}}, which indeed removed the “do not delete” part. Which… seems like a broken behavior of User:Fastily’s bot? (Or, do you object to the {{Now Commons Also Local}} template for some reason?) --Mormegil (talk) 18:18, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
