Battle of Fayetteville

[edit]

@Onegreatjoke: For the title change to Battle of Fayetteville (1862) from Battle of Fayetteville (1862 Western Virginia), I do not have any strong objections to the change, and I understand consistency in title format is important. The battle in Arkansas was in 1863, so it is titled Battle of Fayetteville (1863). That being said, I believe having the state in the name when there have been battles with similar names is helpful to the user—and Wikipedia is for the user. As information, there was some fighting 7 miles from of Fayetteville, Virginia, in 1861, at a place called Cotton Hill. There was also some fighting at Fayetteville, West Virginia (Western Virginia at the time), in 1863—see the external link to the battle of Fayetteville Historical Marker at the bottom of the 1862 article. It is easier to remember the location of a battle than the date. I suspect that in the case of searches for the Battle of Fayetteville, users are now going to have to go to the Wikipedia page to find out if they have the correct battle. If they want to know about the small battle in Western Virginia in 1863, they will only find the Arkansas page. Just my opinion.... What's done is done, and I don't think it is worth reversing, but I wish you would have consulted me before making the change. Have you joined WikiProject Military history?
