Recent AfDs

Hi! I just wanted to thank you for your recent participation in AfDs. I see you're beginning to get into the Wikipedia Library. That's great! It's really a great idea to go there as part of your before nominating an article. For schools newspapers.com, Proquest and newspaperarchive.com are huge aids. For other articles other resources are helpful, including JSTOR. I hope you'll continue to participate, and keep adding to your skillset. One helpful link to read is WP:NEXIST, which is something many editors don't get at AfD - the short of it is that we determine notability not on the current state of the article, but on whether the subject deserves to have an article, i.e., what could be in it. Again, thanks, and happy editing! — Jacona (talk) 22:20, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war; read about how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. —asparagusus (interaction) sprouts! 18:52, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked for sockpuppetry

[edit]
Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 1 week for abusing multiple accounts per the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/PaulGamerBoy360. Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Sir Sputnik (talk) 21:27, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Request reason:

I am not abusing multiple accounts, in fact i have not even been on a computer since last week, if the ip-addresses are similar it is because I use public computers(at my school). If I was going to edit using a different username I would have used my alt-account which is listed on my userpage(s). Also if the person who actually put the block in place has seen my user page full of user boxes, there is no way they could think that I am the same user, the suspected sock puppet has some contributions to things I would never edit. 😎😎PaulGamerBoy360😎😎 (talk) 14:30, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

I've unblocked your account per the discussion below. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 00:08, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Girth Summit: how exactly is this " Possible"? The distance between the two people is slightly greater than the distance between Paris and Moscow. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 17:20, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NinjaRobotPirate I don't think it's possible to draw any conclusions about the distance between the IPs used by these accounts, beyond saying that they're in the same country. The single IP address that one of the accounts has used is, I think, only giving a 'country level' geolocation. Unless I'm mistaken, the pin that some applications put on the map to show its location is the centre point of that country, but the IP could be allocated to a location anywhere within that country. (Certainly, I see that precise location (which does not look like a very heavily populated place) showing up in an inordinate number of searches.) Hence why I said possible - we know they're in the same country, but I specifically said in the SPI that I couldn't be any more precise than that. The block was imposed by someone who had looked at the behaviour more closely than I had - I have no view on he block's validity on that score. Feel free to email me if you want to discuss this offwiki. Girth Summit (blether) 18:51, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, one of the editors' IP addresses has its city right in the hostname. The other is obvious because it's labeled pretty clearly. I feel I can say with pretty strong conviction that these accounts are unrelated based on the CU data. If they were " Possible", you might as well say that anyone in Europe is possibly linked to anyone else in Europe. @Sir Sputnik: Do you have a particularly compelling reason that this editor should stay blocked? Cigarettes are Safe strikes me as a pretty suspicious returning user, but I have to admit that I don't know who that might be. I guess I'd like to see an unblock request before unblocking so I can judge better whether this is a returning troll or some random dude. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 22:30, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. If the CheckUser evidence is compelling, then by all means unblock them. Sir Sputnik (talk) 22:47, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Behaviorally, these two edits, linked in the SPI, seem awfully suspicious when viewed side-by-side, especially when considered in the battleground-y editing at that page, although I guess that could be blamed on the Cigarettes account: [1], [2]. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:07, 14 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't looked at the sock's summaries, but looking now I'll note that a sock that turned out to be of an user with history of joe-jobbing was active recently with slightly different behaviour (and not mobile/visual edit), but with pretending an edit is new with similar summaries as your second link and the other edit on that page. Probably not DUCK though.

I'll take another look later on today - you've obviously seen something in the hostname that I overlooked. Girth Summit (blether) 05:26, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

GNIS Mirrors

[edit]

Hi, I'm wondering what your intention is in adding sources like Hometown Locator which are merely mirrors of the GNIS database. A lot of these seem to be machine generated and don't have any evidence of fact checking, so they're generally redundant at beest and potentially prone to errors. Since Reywas92, myself and others have been removing them anyway, would you consider avoiding these sources so that there's not extra work for all of us? –dlthewave 04:11, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Important: Please update user script installation

[edit]

Hi there, you currently have a user script installed from Anne drew Andrew and Drew. Several weeks ago, I changed my username to Anne drew, and unfortunately, due to an issue with script redirects, the scripts you have installed under my old username no longer function.

To fix this, please update your JavaScript pages (Special:MyPage/common.js or Special:MyPage/skin.js) by replacing all instances of Anne drew Andrew and Drew with Anne drew.

If any of this is unclear, please ping Anne drew for help. I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding!

Thanks – Anne drew
