Ways to improve Chehabism

[edit]

Hello, Prodrummer619,

Thank you for creating Chehabism.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

The sources provided don’t show that chehabism is a notable political philosophy, and the article itself is mostly about the man, not about the politics he espoused. The article needs more sources discussing the politics in depth, and more coverage of the politics in the article text.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Mccapra}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Parliament of Lebanon

[edit]

Hi, I don't feel that the Northern Parliamentary Gathering should be labeled as "ex-Future Movement", not necessarily all of them are former FM members, and besides, we label people based on the party they currently represent, not what they used to. They're technically independents and I think they should be labelled as such. To shed clarity on the situation it might be worth creating a new page for that parliamentary bloc that describes why there are these ex-Future Sunni MPs. Jnoubi75 (talk) 00:54, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Jnoubi75 Sure that would be fine. Maybe also add a note citation on the infobox explaining how its made up of former Future movement MPs. Prodrummer619 (talk) 14:54, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the edit adding the attribution to Draft:History of Tripoli, Lebanon. For future use, would you note the best practices wording as outlined at Wikipedia:Copying_within_Wikipedia? In particular, adding the phrase "see that page's history for attribution" helps ensure that proper attribution is preserved.

I've noticed that this guideline is not very well known, even among editors with tens of thousands of edits, so it isn't surprising that I point this out to some veteran editors, but there are some t's that need to be crossed.S Philbrick(Talk) 11:22, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lebanese acting president is non-existant

[edit]

Hello! Just wanted to talk about the concept of Lebanese incumbent president. There is no such thing actually: the office is simply vacant. This is why I removed all the "incumbent" in the article. Gabriel Abou Adal (talk) 16:28, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Gabriel Abou Adal Constitutions states that "Should there be a vacancy in the Presidency for any reason whatsoever, the Council of Ministers shall exercise the authorities of the President by delegation." So its safe to say that the head of the council of ministers, being the highest authority after the president, would have de facto control over the presidency, hence why he's acting. Prodrummer619 (talk) 17:02, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the powers are bestowed upon the council of ministers (and not on the prime minister, so if we consider that there is an acting president, it should be the whole government and not the prime minister alone).
But even this article of the constitution is not enough, in my opinion. Some countries have express provisions that say that the president of the chamber of deputies or the president of the senate IS an interim president when the office is vacant (most often, it is the president of the senate, when there is a senate, who gets to act as president). In Lebanon, we have no such provision, and the transfer of the presidential powers to the government is not enough to consider the government to be acting as president.
In conclusion, in Lebanon, when there is no president, the office is truly vacant - that's why we talk of "faragh" in Arabic. Gabriel Abou Adal (talk) 17:11, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Gabriel Abou Adal Sure the presidency is vacant, but the second highest authority would still have de facto (meaning unofficial) control of the presidency which is why cases like this are always highlighted in yellow. Prodrummer619 (talk) 17:54, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I will update the Arabic article accordingly as well. Gabriel Abou Adal (talk) 17:13, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Gabriel Abou Adal It would be better if the edits were reverted and a consensus was made in a talk page or in Wikiproject Lebanon since you already have edit disputes with 2 users. Prodrummer619 (talk) 18:02, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It looks to me that this question was already discussed extensively on the talk page of the corresponding article. Many users have complained that the article is inaccurate in stating that there is an acting president (see talk page, comments on Fouad Siniora and Tammam Salam, inter alia). Gabriel Abou Adal (talk) 08:45, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Gabriel Abou Adal Ok. I guess the prime ministers can be removed now. However, Fouad Chehab and disputed presidents should remain on the list since disputed and unconstitutional leaderships are always added on other presidential list articles with a clear identification of their leadership status. Prodrummer619 (talk) 16:02, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I see your point! Gabriel Abou Adal (talk) 20:47, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Draft:History of Baalbek requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.colleconline.com/en/items/90170/coins-antique-b-to-roman-provincial-coele-syria-heliopolis-gallienus and https://www.topworldimages.com/Baalbek_Roman_Ruins.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Levantine Arabic Wikipedia

[edit]

Good afternoon, Prodrummer. I'm one of the few editors of the Levantine Arabic test Wikipedia on Incubator, a test Wikipedia that's in your language.

If you'd like to contribute, feel free to. There's a lot of work that the project needs. You can help in many ways, as you do on this wiki. You can also help by translating the interface and discussing additions to the manual of style (MoS), which is currently empty.

The English-to-Levantine dictionary I use is Arabic Words. Let me know if you find a better one.

If you don't want to, that is perfectly okay, of course.

Thank you :-) FunLater (talk) 16:53, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@FunLater Wow, this is very impressive and definitely exciting to see. I'll certainly contribute to this. Prodrummer619 (talk) 17:04, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Close paraphrasing

[edit]

Hello, Prodrummer619. Today I have closed the listing at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2023 August 7 for Draft:Timeline of violent events relating to the Lebanese Civil War (1975–1977) and regret that as an uninvolved administrator I have found it necessary to delete that draft according to WP:C policy. I have documented some of the pervasive close paraphrasing I found there, which does include some direct copying. I know it is very, very difficult to take content from such a list and create another without this happening unless you are weaving together multiple lists or unless you are very, very careful to completely rewrite the content from your own words. Unfortunately, the non-profit source from which you drew does not generally release its content into the public domain or under free license, so we cannot copy or closely paraphrase from them widely. Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing might be helpful to you if you wish to restart this draft, but unless you get many other sources, it may not be easy to do it without running into these issues again.

I know that these kinds of challenges are likely to be discouraging from contributing, and I hope you will not let this stop you from continuing to build out knowledge. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:53, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution (second request)

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from 2008 Lebanon conflict into Draft:History of the Chouf region. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:17, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I saw you previously worked on a stub (2023 Israeli invasion of Gaza) which has since been redirected, so I wanted to mention the draft-space article to you. Cheers! Wikipedia in Lebanese

There is renewed interest in this project, and even a small number of edits per month would make a big difference. Here is a brief intro in English. Update the Israel-Lebanon Conflict

[edit]

https://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/58/1262/522393/War-on-Gaza/War-on-Gaza/Two-Hezbollah-members-killed-in-Israeli-strikes.aspx Since October 7 there have been near-daily cross-border exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and the Israeli army. But Hezbollah has stepped up its rocket attacks on Israeli targets in recent days. On Tuesday morning, a source close to the group told AFP an Israeli drone strike deep into Lebanon killed an engineer working for Hezbollah's air defense forces as he was traveling in a vehicle. The strike hit the Abu al-Aswad area near the coastal city of Tyre, some 35 kilometers (22 miles) from the border, an AFP journalist reported. The fighter's vehicle was completely burnt out. Hezbollah said two of its fighters had been killed, one of them overnight. The Israeli army said it had killed "two significant terrorists in Hezbollah's aerial unit" on Tuesday morning and overnight. On Sunday evening, Hezbollah shot down an Israeli drone, both sides said. Since October 7, at least 378 people have been killed in Lebanon, mostly Hezbollah fighters but also 70 civilians, according to an AFP tally. Israel says 11 soldiers and eight civilians have been killed on its side of the border. 65.175.241.99 (talk) 15:03, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Terrorism in Lebanon

[edit]

Hello, Prodrummer619,

Thank you for creating Terrorism in Lebanon.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This is very interesting and comprehensive article, but would really do with an even longer lede to cover the main points. The definition section in the lede could be in a separate sub-section and not the lede. great work however.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Aszx5000}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.
