Kiss of Life categories

[edit]

Hello, Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars,

I don't understand when an editor has created categories, in this case for a band, why you empty out the categories and instead make newly created categories that are almost identical to the ones the original editor created. Wouldn't it be better to go through the category renaming process or move them yourself rather than create new, competing categories? It seems a little insensitive to the editor who first got the idea to create these categories who is now wondering why their empty categories are tagged for speedy deletion. It doesn't matter who does the first edit, it's about collaboration, not competition. Liz Read! Talk! 22:47, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: You are exactly right. I'm not competing with anybody. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 22:53, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Genius of Modern Music

[edit]

Hi! Could you help me figure out how to clean up the 10" for Genius of Modern Music? I separated out the 12"s Genius of Modern Music, Vols. One & Two. The second ten inch is still up: Genius of Modern Music, Vol. 2. Neither ten inch has any citations but only the first got flagged because of the new page creation. Should I just merge it in with vol 2? It feels like they should have separate pages (three total) or be merged together because the ten inches don't have proper sourcing. Rick Nelson - For Your Sweet Love Billboard Review

[edit]

Hi @Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars i saw it article of Rick Nelson - For your sweet love, when you remove the billboard review, what appropriate or not appropriate for the billboard review wikipedia article, Strong new xas by Nelson here, incorporating his four single sides so far released by Decca and eight others, including the Listenanable album title song. This is his first album for his new label and it shound be a big one, and the color cover shot won't do any harm either. "Gypsy Woman" and "String Along", his current action singles, are here with "I Got a Woman", You Don't Love Me Anymore" and a flock of other goodies [1]https://books.google.com/books?id=aQsEAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PA29&dq=rick%20nelson%20for%20your%20sweet%20love%20billboard&pg=PA29#v=onepage&q=rick%20nelson%20for%20your%20sweet%20love%20billboard&f=false? Samchristie05 (talk) 04:20, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Samchristie05: You need to learn how to be succinct and determine what is appropriate and not appropriate for an article. That "review" in Billboard reads more like a sales pitch and offers no critical information on its own. Just because you find something that refers to it online doesn't mean you have to use it in the article. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 04:30, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Misafir Geldim

[edit]

Hello Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Misafir Geldim for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace that's not for articles.

If you don't want Misafir Geldim to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Hello, Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars,

I review the Move log during the day and have noticed that you move a lot of articles and drafts, particularly involving music. Have you ever considered requesting Page Mover rights? Then you could choose whether or not to leave a redirect when you move a page. You have much more experience that most of our page movers and I'm pretty sure it would be automatically granted. Just thought I'd mention it in case it is something you're interested in. Thanks for all of your contributions to the project! Liz Read! Talk! 04:05, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Hey man im josh: Sorry, I never got back to you on this earlier. I let it slide and just never thought about it. Template

[edit]

Hello Star, I have seen your name countless times in music related so I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask for help regarding (music) templates. I have created {{Yanga Chief}} and {{Anatii}} and it was easy since they have notable songs, written songs, produced songs, and released album(s) as well, so I was wondering if it would be possible to create one for Tyla (linked category to show her works + tour) or is it too early? I'm asking 'cause I came across this template {{Kabza de Small}} which does not contain too many articles Thank you in advance, I'll be on the lookout for your response. dxneo (talk) 07:40, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi dxneo. Thank you for your message. I'd say just go for it. It's at a mimimal threshold for me but nothing that tells me you shouldn't. Just be sure to add the navbox to all the articles that you list in it. I noticed you didn't add the Yanga Chief navbox in the article for 10 Fingers. If you don't think it should be in the article, then it shouldn't be in the navbox. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 18:53, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Query

[edit]

Hello, Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars,

You know both categories and music on Wikipedia so I'm hoping you can help. An editor just created a new category, Category:Indie rock musical groups which looks legit. But it has no parent categories. Can you assign appropriate ones so that this category fits into the music category hierarchy? Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Liz Read! Talk! 04:01, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Thanks for bringing this to my attention. This category is already covered by Category:Indie rock groups, and the contents should be merged into there. Should the new one just be changed into a category redirect? StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 04:27, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense. I already tagged it CSD C1 but I'll revert that and you can create a category redirect. You really do have an encyclopedic memory on the subject. Liz Read! Talk! 05:13, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sam recreated this page as a draft after placing a {{db-self}} tag on the original page, so that he could hide the reject notice. I caught wind of this, and told him that if he thinks AfC reviewers are wrong, he should move the page to mainspace himself instead of resubmitting. I think it's against the spirit of WP:DRAFTOBJECT to redraftify this page instead of opening a deletion discussion. Mach61 16:56, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Mach61: Thanks for letting me know. Sam was publishing so many horribly written and poorly sourced articles that they were always being sent to draft. It was suggested he be blocked from creating new articles in mainspace, but he got the message and voluntarily began developing his articles in draft space. His submissions would still be declined, sometimes multiple times, before being accepted and moved to mainspace, which seems like he’s wasting a lot of time of the reviewers. I noticed he moved this one himself but didn’t know you had told me he could/should. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 21:52, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars. Take a look for which one you prefer at the "Release history" table: "Distributor", "Licensee", "Marketer" or "Promoter". 183.171.122.34 (talk) 17:56, 12 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Re: jazz album stub templates

[edit]

Why is there a minimum? Other music stub cats don't seem to meet your minimum, such as "2020s indie rock album stubs" (27 entries) and "Finnish composer stubs" (53). - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 02:38, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sumanuil:. First, you should read WP:NEWSTUB before creating such stub categories and templates. New stubs should be discussed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals first, at which time they can be created. Stub categories should not be created on a whim. What I attempted to do per NEWSTUB is allow for the existence of the template (e.g. {{2020s-jazz-album-stub}}), which was created a year ago, without the need of the very lightly populated category (e.g. Category:2020s jazz album stubs). In regards to the examples you cite, Category:Finnish composer stubs was approved through the proposal process and, at the time, probably met the 60 threshhold and is still not that far off from it anyway. Category:2020s indie rock album stubs, on the other hand, was never proposed and should not have been created. The two jazz album stub categories should be deleted and returned to just the templates, as I had done, until there are 60+ stub articles that could populate each one. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 06:40, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. That's all I wanted, a detailed explanation. Delete it if you see fit to do so. But I still think emptying it to force to qualify for speedy deletion was not the right thing to do. - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 07:44, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed the stub templates to meet standard procedures for new stubs when created out of process, which resulted in the categories being emptied. I did not do it force them to qualify for speedy deletion. Thanks and happy editing. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 18:02, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, that's just what it seemed like from here. - Sumanuil. (talk to me) 08:32, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You can work on it at Draft:20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection: The Best of the Mamas & the Papas. I am bit surprised the ABBA article was accepted. Page mover granted

[edit]

Hello, Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

@Samchristie05: I don’t review or accept draft articles, and those who do are quite lenient with your work. However, they often just want to ensure the sources provided establish notability of the topic. IMO, your articles are very poorly written, and at times the English doesn’t even make sense. Ricky Sings Again

[edit]

do you think we should remove One source tag from Ricky Sings Again article since i added some sources or no? Samchristie05 (talk) 04:15, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Samchristie05: I removed the tag and improved the article since you're still not very good at writing. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 04:56, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i know, i'm might going to add to book related to this article Samchristie05 (talk) 00:40, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just because you find a source, it does not mean you need to include something from it to an article. Make sure it adds value to the topic, not just providing an overview of the track list. Watch your spelling, too, and why do you capitalize "album"? StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 04:21, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:20, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pageswap

[edit]

Hi Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars. When doing a round-robin swap, make sure to uncheck the "Leave a redirect behind" box for each move in the process. I have deleted three redirects that were left in Draft:Move/... space (Draft:Move/Images, Draft:Move/Images (Crusaders album), Draft:Move/Images (The Crusaders album)). Alternatively, you can install the User:Ahecht/Scripts/pageswap script to automate the swap process, which is what I generally recommend. SilverLocust 💬 22:01, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@SilverLocust: Yep, I know. Just forgot. I realized it as soon as I clicked it. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 22:03, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment

[edit]

Hey @Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars, I've noticed you gave an assessment to the new new pages I created (thank you very much btw). I was just wondering in what way I could improve them from C-Class to (hopefully) GA-class. Is it the fact it lacks information or is it just the nature of the article? Thanks very much, I want to become a better editor so this will help. Locust member (talk) 22:19, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Locust member: Thank you for the note, and well done on the articles you have created. Assessing articles from a stub to B-class is a voluntary effort that anyone can do, but to get an article up to GA is a formal process that requires the article to be nominated and then reviewed by an impartial editor. I rarely give anything more than a C-class based on content (factors being how in depth, variety of subtopics, and being well sourced). B-class, to me, requires a deeper verification of the sources (e.g., discussion of the topic in some detail from an independent source and not just, say, sales numbers or a puff piece). To read up on the criteria for reaching GA-class, check out WP:GA as well as articles which have received GA status (such as those listed at Wikipedia:Good articles/Music). If you feel a certain article meets the criteria, feel free to nominate it for GA following the instructions. If you want to be extra sure, ask for a peer review. Either way, you will learn a lot from the feedback you receive. Keep up the good work. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 23:35, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for the reply. I appreciate you! Locust member (talk) 00:41, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cat removals

[edit]

Hi, I see that you undid quite a lot of edits that I had made for Indian film composition cats. A courtesy notice for the rationale would have been appreciated, while I undid some of those where no summary was given I have stopped and ask for policy rationales from you here.

For e.g. this: I am not aware of a policy which says that only maintenance cats have be maintained in the cat namespace (if there is let me know), I made sure that these were the most basic and defining ones before adding them.

Then this, all Indian film soundtracks are classified as filmi and most of them are released via dubbing in related languages; so the cats do apply to all of the albums/soundtracks (though I am not aware of a policy where any variance would make a cat moot; e.g. Category:Cantonese-language albums which subcats all C-pop artists though many release their works in English).

Then removals in line of this, again I am not aware of any policy based removal for these (e.g. in this the cats cover their era and exclusive work language).

Do point me to the correct direction if I am wrong, and let me know any further clarifications are needed.

Category:Stone (band) albums has been nominated for renaming

[edit]

Category:Stone (band) albums has been nominated for renaming. A discussion is taking place to decide whether it complies with the categorization guidelines. If you would like to participate in the discussion, you are invited to add your comments at the category's entry on the categories for discussion page. Thank you. jlwoodwa (talk) 05:05, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Beast (Canadian band) albums requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

C2F: One eponymous page

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. GamerPro64 07:39, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This has been reinstated. The article has been added back into it. I have also added the altbum artwork file to the category.
Why there is a discussion elsewhere about whether it is eponymous or not is rather weird. The album is named, presumably after the band. Eponymity does not disqualify a category from existing. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 16:15, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Timtrent: Thanks for the note and for restoring the category. Eponymity only has to do with a single eponymous article being in an eponymous category (per the C2F criterion of WP:CSD). In this case, the eponymous category for the band would be Category:Beast (Canadian band), which rightly doesn't exist. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 17:46, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was not I who restored it. It just struck me that no-one had let you know. As for eponymity, I agree with you.
And you also know, now, that media can be placed in categories, if you did not previously.
This was a bizarre interlude. Than you for appearing not to mind too much about it. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 18:00, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Question about article creation

[edit]

I wanted to make an article draft for Fill Her Up by Sting, but when I typed in the song name, it redirected me to the article Gene (band). What do I do in this case? Newtatoryd222 (talk) 02:53, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Newtatoryd222: If you are creating it in draft, then nothing to worry about until it is accepted. An admin can take care of the naming. Since there is no history to the redirect at Fill Her Up, we could simply use that or we could move the redirect to Fill Her Up (Gene song) - then use the "Fill Her Up" title for the Sting song (again if the draft is accepted).
