Re: translating Philebus

[edit]

I understand you were trying to help out there translating the article from German, and I don't want to necessarily discourage you in the future, but in addition to copy-editing more in the future, you might want to take a look at the essay on Translating German Wikipedia before translating anything else from there so you're aware of the pitfalls.

As someone who's translated several philosophy articles from German wikipedia, I think it's still a valuable resource and often has much more thorough coverage than we do, but in addition to copy-editing there's a fair amount of verification of sources that needs to be done because German wikipedia has much more lax standards for verification than we do here, e.g. a lot of what appear to be cited sources are actually just suggestions for further reading. Usually I find it helps to make a copy of the article in your sandbox or a notepad file; it's less work than starting from scratch by far, but typically I'd say even with access to the cited sources and knowledge of the background material, it's still about 10-20 hours worth of work after machine translation to get an article "ready" for enwiki, and at that point it's still pretty far from something like GA even if it was a featured article over there. Still often worth it in my opinion, but not quite the easy win it might seem to be at first! Psychastes (talk) 05:32, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thank you for the advice! Most of my translations have been from Portuguese Wikipedia, with varying success. Sometimes something was removed, so I went back to Portuguese Wikipedia and requested for the original to be removed too. Thiagovscoelho (talk) 11:12, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have sent you a note about a page you started

[edit]

Hi Thiagovscoelho. Thank you for your work on Sentence letter. Another editor, Voorts, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Please remember to tag redirects that you create per WP:REDCAT. I would also recommend adding a mention of "sentence letter" and a citation to the article Propositional variable.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Voorts}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Hi, OK, thanks. I've added the name/citation to the article. Thiagovscoelho (talk) 18:30, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Lobster War, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Tanker, Movement and Jump.

Speedy deletion nomination of Conjunction/disjunction duality

[edit]

Hello Thiagovscoelho,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Conjunction/disjunction duality for deletion, because it seems to be copied from another source, probably infringing copyright.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to rewrite it in your own words, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Trump and NOTFORUM

[edit]

Hello! Talk:Donald Trump is for discussing improvements to the Donald Trump article, not for more general forum-like discussions about Trump, politics, and such. I hope you will keep this in mind in any future participation there. See WP:NOTFORUM for the relevant Wikipedia policy. ―Mandruss  02:27, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I thought of my comment as about a difficulty in locating reliable sources for the types of claims that a user was requesting be inserted. In any case, I don't plan to get further into this sort of thing. Thiagovscoelho (talk) 07:41, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
