Tagging spree[edit]

An old friend has tagged Simon Hawke, Dean Shomshak, and Jonathan Tweet. Anything you can find for those would help. BOZ (talk) 02:16, 31 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Torchiest, I do see HighBeam hits for Simon Hawke at least: [1] [2] [3] [4] BOZ (talk) 14:10, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ha, I just added something I originally found there saying he's won an award. There might be some other stuff to dig out of the contemporary authors source at least. —Torchiest talkedits 14:13, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that was bizarre, you were already working on this as I was typing my post.  ;) BOZ (talk) 14:14, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Torchiest, the tag was removed from Tweet, so we will see if someone puts it back or tries to fight it. BOZ (talk) 15:10, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Recent trimming of Peacock language[edit]

Hi Torchiest, I saw your helpful edits just now and I was wondering if you would be interested in working on a larger-scale trim. This idea comes from a talk page proposal here that I have been meaning to attend to, but that I realize I'm kind of being apathetic about. No worries if you're too busy or otherwise uninterested. I of all people would understand that. But I thought I'd bring it up on the off-chance that you were looking for a bit of a project. -Thibbs (talk) 15:47, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I hadn't checked the talk page, and didn't want to do too much too quickly, but I had the same misgivings about the people included and excluded from that list myself. I'll probably continue to peck at it, but I don't plan to do anything huge all at once. Thanks for the heads up. —Torchiest talkedits 16:11, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I just had the best misunderstanding ever[edit]

Hi there, couldn't resist passing this on -- saw your recent edit to Zoe Quinn, which summary ended with "cats are subcats of the genderless ones." At first I thought you were making some very obscure, Lovecraftian statement about our feline friends. It took me WAY too long to parse your statement. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dumuzid (talkcontribs) 03:07, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hahah, wow, very good stuff. Thanks for the laugh. —Torchiest talkedits 03:08, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Non-diffusing categories[edit]

Please stop removing articles from the parent categories of non-diffusing categories such as Category:Women video game developers. They are non-diffusing for a very specific reason: to prevent the ghettoization of women in these industries as "not real video game developers" because they're not seen when you look at the main category. —David Eppstein (talk) 03:11, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I noticed that after I removed them. It wasn't my intention to cause a problem in that way. —Torchiest talkedits 03:15, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

ZQ[edit]

There is a talk page section on the categories if you'd like to discuss it. If we're going to remove one of the categories, then it should be developer not the more specific programmer. — Strongjam (talk) 15:57, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is, the entire article refers to her as a developer. Programming is one specific aspect, the code itself, and development encapsulates that as well as many other aspects of product life cycle, such as debugging. Quinn has gone through all the steps for releasing at least one game on her own. —Torchiest talkedits 16:12, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The standard seems to be to use the programmer category in such cases though. For example Peter Molyneux, Tim Schafer, Satoru Iwata, Sid Meier, are all in Category:Video game programmers and not Category:Video game developers. — Strongjam (talk) 16:19, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Right, but they're all described as programmers in their article bodies as well, so the categories match the content. Quinn is described almost exclusively as a developer in her article. Having said that, I'm not sure there is a clear standard really. I've been poking around in these categories for a couple of days, trying to sort out any kind of pattern, and things seem fairly jumbled. I'm trying to figure out if there is any clear division supported by reliable sources somewhere, or if it's been discussed before. —Torchiest talkedits 16:27, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the first paragraph of programmer is pretty enlightening, and gets at what I was saying. Programming is one aspect of development. Perhaps Category:Video game developers should be made a subcategory of Category:Video game programmers. —Torchiest talkedits 16:30, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Weird.. Hit submit to say the same thing and got an edit conflict. I think it should, but not sure what the process to suggest that is. — Strongjam (talk) 16:32, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it. Category:Video game developers should probably be the parent category. — Strongjam (talk) 16:34, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
But all developers are programmers, while not all programmers are developers. It's a bit counter intuitive, but similar to how all women video game developers are video gamer developers, but not the reverse, so women VG devs is the child category. —Torchiest talkedits 17:06, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Other way around in this case, Category:Video game developers are people who are involved in game development, but not necessarily programmers (script writers, designers, produces, artists, etc...) So all video game programmers are video game developers, but not the other way around. In the broader context of programmer v.s. developer, they're usually considered synonyms although sometimes people take the labels too seriously (don't get me started on "software engineer"). — Strongjam (talk) 17:16, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

July Barnstar script[edit]

I was hoping not to have to ask you, but I can't make it work for the July drive. I haven't heard from Jonesey95 and will ping Baffle gab1978, but in case no one has gotten to it (I banged my head against it all afternoon, but there are probably things I don't know) would you please run it? Thanks very much and all the best, Miniapolis 23:43, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, sorry you're having trouble with it. I'll run it when I get home from work today. Cheers. —Torchiest talkedits 15:02, 3 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much. It was a bear to get going for some reason (I have Windows 7), and then it seemed to hang up on signature markup (I'd done all the data-file preliminary cleanup I could see). For some reason I was getting the same error messages over and over—not "client mismatch", but scary stuff like "File not found". I couldn't get past DThomsen8 to save my life, but it did get me out of weeding the garden :-). I'm game to learn this, but my learning curve is steep. Hope all's well with you and the family. Thanks again and all the best, Miniapolis 19:46, 3 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Miniapolis: Done. I'm guessing the spot that hung you up was the listing for Hopea foxworthyi. That line didn't have parentheses around the word count. Took me a while to find it myself. :) —Torchiest talkedits 00:35, 4 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Might have been, and thanks again; learning experiences are almost always painful (at least for me :-)). All the best, Miniapolis 13:16, 4 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and "file not found" isn't too bad. That likely just meant the script wasn't looking in the right place, either because the file was in a different place, or there was a typo in the name. —Torchiest talkedits 16:45, 4 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I got stuck on the same line (no parens), but I was able to make the script work once I found that problem. I made the following change to the script to automate the month name in the table header. Use it if you want:

objOutput.WriteLine "!Old rollover total <br>(DO NOT USE FOR {{subst:#switch:{{subst:#expr:{{subst:CURRENTMONTH}}+1}} |1=JANUARY|2=FEBRUARY|3=MARCH|4=APRIL|5=MAY|6=JUNE|7=JULY|8=AUGUST|9=SEPTEMBER|10=OCTOBER|11=NOVEMBER|12=DECEMBER}})" objOutput.WriteLine "!Grand total" objOutput.WriteLine "!New rollover total <br>(USE THIS NUMBER FOR {{subst:#switch:{{subst:#expr:{{subst:CURRENTMONTH}}+1}} |1=JANUARY|2=FEBRUARY|3=MARCH|4=APRIL|5=MAY|6=JUNE|7=JULY|8=AUGUST|9=SEPTEMBER|10=OCTOBER|11=NOVEMBER|12=DECEMBER}})"

Thanks for the script! It worked well once I RTFM'd a couple of times. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:00, 4 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Maniac Mansion[edit]

Hey, about the content you re-added. I initially deleted that because I wasn't sure it was even about the game, since the prose that the ref supports makes no mention of Maniac Mansion. Had no idea who added it and figured it was just random cruft (there has been so much of that in this article so far), so I just went ahead and cut it. I'm totally okay with its being in the article—my only concern is that the book doesn't talk about MM when it defends verb-guessing. If it doesn't, I don't think it can be included, since that goes against WP:REL and (potentially) WP:UNDUE. Since you're apparently the one who added it, could you confirm that MM is discussed by the authors during that passage? JimmyBlackwing (talk) 00:21, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@JimmyBlackwing:I didn't add it initially, but here's the relevant passage: "But the player still has to interact with the game through typed commands. This remained so until the introduction of the point-and-click interface by LucasFilm Games in 1987 in their adventure game Maniac Mansion. Now actions like push, pull, give, open, close, use, unlock et cetera, were shown on the screen so that the player could select them using her mouse or keyboard. This avoided typing errors and having to work out which commands worked and which not. This did, however, take away some of the fun as, apart from solving puzzles, figuring out a game’s vocabulary was very much part of the enjoyment of playing (text) adventure games." Cheers. —Torchiest talkedits 01:45, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. I'll work with this to make the connection clearer in the prose. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 02:53, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I was having all kinds of trouble with that website and after three tries I gave up. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 03:34, 12 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Years in space templates[edit]

Hi Torchiest! Just to remind you the Years in space templates can be used on pages that are already in the year in space category. If it worked as you think it would then the templates would be useless don't you think? Also multiple pages using the template are also included in those categories which exceeds 100 pages if you wish to remove them all. Davidbuddy9 (talk) 21:43, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, that was just a misunderstanding on my part. For some reason I thought it was a category that had been added incorrectly because it had the category at the bottom of the template. I didn't even realize I'd removed the entire template. Thanks for fixing it. —Torchiest talkedits 01:34, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Torchiest: No problem, Its all good. I was just adding the 2012 template to the appropriate pages. I do apologize if I was a bit harsh I was a bit grumpy at the time. Davidbuddy9 (talk) 02:23, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

dnd alignments[edit]

this is ridiculous. my every contribution is essentially being deleted and/or stolen via self refuting catch 22's. "needs better cites" okay, fine, i provide highly credible citations by experts many of whom are licenced representatives. not good enough, then they use that as some kind of excuse to say it's not even exactly dnd then. okay well if it isn't exactly dnd then why is it also not applicable to place it in the gary inspired mmorpg games? and why are you ignoring the whole point of showing the level of inspiration as an argument about "how great it is bluster bluster" rather than exactly as i said QUALIFYING INSPIRATION! wtf! if ddo doesn't fit as a dnd reference then it cant then not fit for a non dnd reference. editing it out is total bs. wiki really digs contributions.... i have no reason at all to believe it would be any different on any other page nit that i'm very motivated at this point to contribute anything anymore, ever. JeffryBloom (talk) 04:39, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Alignment (D&D) article[edit]

Can you please take a look at the recent most additions. I think they are irrelevant WP:SYNTH, and have removed them, but keep getting reverted. I'm at 3RR, so I can't take them out again, but they're pretty pointless. oknazevad (talk) 20:46, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Ick. Can you find anything else for him at all? BOZ (talk) 20:32, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I found some stuff in one of the HighBeam sources, and added that, then found the free version of the profile here. Maybe you can scrape some more out of it. I'm inclined to remove the PROD and let it go for a full AFD, just based on the number of results at HB. —Torchiest talkedits 23:26, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking the same thing, but the PROD has a few more days left and I wanted to let it ride a bit longer to have a chance to find more sources. BOZ (talk) 23:54, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Autechre Pages[edit]

It must be because of the fact that several different authors have worked on the Autechre pages over the years but edits were a bit slapdash at points and there was no consistent style, I hope it's not beyond my remit to try inject such uniformity into the articles, I sort of appointed myself high judge magister of the pages, hah.

Billy Neil, Lover of Electronic Music (talk) 22:24, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Totally fine. They are a mishmash of styles and content. I've occasionally worked on them, but haven't been as active as I used to be. Keep up the good work. —Torchiest talkedits 03:06, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am having a bit of a problem that I hope I can ask your advice on; is there such a thing as 'over referencing' articles? Particularly with articles I feel might be lesser known or of questionable notability I do go slightly over the top with the references. Take the L-Event page I made for example, it's about 2 paragraphs and a couple of tables long BUT it has ended up with 14 references. Is this a bad thing? Billy Neil, Lover of Electronic Music (talk) 22:11, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Drneroli: No, I think it's fine. If you have half a dozen references for a single sentence, that could be an issue, but since almost half of them are links to reviews, which could later be used to expand the article, there's nothing wrong with it in that case. There was one superfluous source that didn't provide anything useful, so I pulled it, but otherwise no problems. —Torchiest talkedits 14:04, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Right, ok, i'll try and spread out refs a bit if there are lots of them. Billy Neil, Lover of Electronic Music (talk) 20:54, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mind weighing in on this?[edit]

Hi, long time no contribute to GOCE. Sorry about that.

I'm having this ongoing debate about an entry I created and I feel like the editor who wants to delete is being overly technical. Does s/he have grounds? Thanks for your time.--A21sauce (talk) 21:16, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for March 6[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Drumcorps, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Heavy metal. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Mark Poole[edit]

Do you have any good sources for Mark Poole? BOZ (talk) 01:27, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not much. There's this (examiner.com/slideshow/famous-mark-poole-magic-the-gathering-cards), but it has no prose. There's also these (examiner.com/article/original-art-wrath-of-god-magic-the-gathering-painting-sells-for-80-000) two brief mentions of his work appearing in exhibitions and conventions. io9 has list that mentions his work. Here's a video of a talk he gave. That's the best I've got. I also added a little the article. And apparently, based on my failed attempt to save this comment, examiner.com is blacklisted? So not a good source. Boo. —Torchiest talkedits 13:00, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hah! Well, I appreciate it. And I know Examiner seems like it would be a fine source, but it is blacklisted. BOZ (talk) 13:04, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Gamergate Controversy on 1RR[edit]

Hey! The page Gamergate Controversy is under 1RR. You reverted twice- here, and here. Please undo your second reversion. Thanks. PeterTheFourth (talk) 06:11, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

1RR applies to making a reversion more than once, which I did not. My second edit completed restoring it to the state it was in before I reverted. —Tourchiest talkedits 10:54, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
WP:3RR: "An edit or a series of consecutive edits that undoes other editors' actions—whether in whole or in part—counts as a revert." - your first edit reverted my edit, and your second reverted a part (note the wording of Wikipedia policy on edit warring) of Artw's. Please self-revert. PeterTheFourth (talk) 23:40, 2 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to reintroduce an unsourced piece of information. If you disagree, revert it, and I will take it to talk. —Torchiest talkedits 01:33, 3 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Original Barnstar
Thank you so much for cleaning up the mess I created by attempting to organize and sort past GOCE newsletter project pages. Sorry for the inconvenience. I am still not sure I understand the source of the problem (I categorize project pages for WikiProjects all the time), but I do appreciate you taking time to undo whatever edits of mine were causing the problem. --Another Believer (Talk) 15:35, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It's because we transclude our newsletters instead of simply pasting the contents. That's like adding a template to an article page. Everything from the template is part of the article, so any changes to the template will change everywhere it's transcluded. If we had pasted the contents, we could later change the original newsletters and not have this problem. I can see how you would think adding cats would be helpful, but we already have a central location in the WikiProject listing all the newsletters, grouped by month and year, so it's fairly easy to navigate through them all there. —Torchiest talkedits 15:38, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder[edit]

Just following up on your suggestion of a reminder to send out the newsletter. Here's a link to the feature draft too: link. Thanks for helping to look it over. I just want to avoid being too harsh/critical of anyone in connection with the Lucia Black business. I also put a mention of the logo business here. We'll see if there are any comments. I guess I'm pretty resigned to the whole thing. Anyway thanks again. -Thibbs (talk) 18:43, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of Adventure (Atari 2600)[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Adventure (Atari 2600) at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Yoninah (talk) 01:15, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Adventure (Atari 2600)[edit]

On 17 April 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Adventure (Atari 2600), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Atari 2600 game Adventure contained the first well-known instance of a video game Easter egg? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Adventure (Atari 2600). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Adventure (Atari 2600)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Sam Pepper DYK[edit]

Hey there! So, knowing that you were the one that passed my hook, I would like you to support me in the discussion on it being removed. Now, I know that you recently commented on it, apologizing due to BLP concerns. But, the article is heavily sourced, backing up the negative info, thus passing WP:GNG/WP:BASIC. Again, I know you already commented on the matter, but I would really appreciate it if you in any way supported the hook and try to help revive it, as I am very confused on the removal. Thank you.Sekyaw (talk) 22:38, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

With respect[edit]

I'd politely ask that you take a light hand in collapsing comments. It is sometimes certainly called for, but anything that involves editing or changing the visibility of other editors' comments has a way of upping the vitriol. Thank you. Dumuzid (talk) 17:34, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain to me how the comment of yours I collapsed didn't up the vitriol. It reads as plainly mocking and unconstructive. And the sentence I used in my collapse comment is a quote from the giant notice that pops up every time you edit the page. —Torchiest talkedits 20:06, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it was a somewhat silly take on the laconic nature of the comment. I like to think that even among those who disagree there can be some fun. Also, you'll notice I didn't complain about the comment you used. But do as you will. Collapse to your heart's content. Dumuzid (talk) 00:38, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine with humor, but not when it's essentially dismissive of another person's view on such a delicate subject. I was hoping the general tone would improve after the most disruptive personality was removed, and I feel like you've made plenty of good points on the talk page before. And I'm not planning on hatting everything. Just most of it. ;) —Torchiest talkedits 01:22, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

More "Austin Petersen"[edit]

Hi Torchiest. You may recall the fighting over the page "Austin Petersen and the several attempts to get around the deletions. June 2016 Guild of Copy Editors Newsletter[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors June 2016 News

Hello everyone, welcome to the June 2016 GOCE newsletter. It's been a few months since we sent one out; we hope y'all haven't forgotten about the Guild! Your coordinators have been busy behind the scenes as usual, though real life has a habit of reducing our personal wiki-time. The May backlog reduction drive, the usual coordinating tasks and preparations for the June election are keeping us on our toes!

May drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in last month's record-setting backlog reduction drive. Of the 29 people who signed up, 16 copyedited at least one article, 197 copyedits were recorded on the drive page, and the copyedit backlog fell below 1,500 for the first time! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

June Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz will occur from 12 June through 18 June; the themes will be video games and Asian geography.

Coordinator elections: It's election time again; how quickly they seem to roll around! Nominations for the next tranche of Guild coordinators, who will serve a six-month term that begins at 00:01 UTC on 1 July and ends at 23:59 UTC on 31 December, opens at 00:01 UTC on 1 June and closes at 23:59 UTC on 15 June. Voting takes place between 00:01 UTC on 16 June and 23:59 UTC on 30 June. If you'd like to assist behind the scenes, please consider stepping forward; self-nominations are welcomed and encouraged. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible; remember it's your Guild, and it doesn't run itself!

Guild of Copy Editors September 2016 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the September 2016 GOCE newsletter.

>>> Sign up for the September Drive, already in progress! <<<

July Drive: The July drive was a roaring success. We set out to remove April, May, and June 2015 from our backlog (our 149 oldest articles), and by 23 July, we were done with those months. We added July 2015 (66 articles) and copy-edited 37 of those. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from June 2016. Well done! Overall, we recorded copy edits to 240 articles by 20 editors, reducing our total backlog to 13 months and 1,656 articles, the second-lowest month-end total ever.

August Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 21 through 27 August; the theme was sports-related articles in honor of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Of the eight editors who signed up, five editors removed 11 articles from the backlog. A quiet blitz – everyone must be on vacation. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdlsk.

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Hello, Torchiest. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors December 2016 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the December 2016 GOCE newsletter. We had an October newsletter all set to go, but it looks like we never pushed the button to deliver it, so this one contains a few months of updates. We have been busy and successful!

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: Nominations are open for election of Coordinators for the first half of 2017. Please visit the election page to nominate yourself or another editor, and then return after December 15 to vote. Thanks for participating!

September Drive: The September drive was fruitful. We set out to remove July through October 2015 from our backlog (an ambitious 269 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of oldest articles to just 83. We reduced our overall backlog by 97 articles, even with new copyedit tags being added to articles every day. We also handled 75% of the remaining Requests from August 2016. Overall, 19 editors recorded copy edits to 233 articles (over 378,000 words).

October Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 October; the theme was Requests, since the backlog was getting a bit long. Of the 16 editors who signed up, 10 editors completed 29 requests. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

November Drive: The November drive was a record-breaker! We set out to remove September through December 2015 from our backlog (239 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of old articles to just 66, eliminating the two oldest months! We reduced our overall backlog by 523 articles, to a new record low of 1,414 articles, even with new tags being added to articles every day, which means we removed copy-editing tags from over 800 articles. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from October 2016. Officially, 14 editors recorded copy edits to 200 articles (over 312,000 words), but over 600 articles, usually quick fixes and short articles, were not recorded on the drive page.

Housekeeping note: we do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your Watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

All the best for 2017![edit]

Merry Christmas![edit]

I'm wishing you a Merry Christmas, because that is what I celebrate. If you don't like Christmas or just don't celebrate it in any of its forms, then please accept a generic "Happy Holidays". If you celebrate no holidays at this time of year, then hopefully you will be satisfied with an even more generic "Season's Greetings".  :) BOZ (talk) 01:40, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You participated in the same Afd under a different name. You mentioned several sources that you may want to reiterate at the new one. I don't want to take credit for your research. That man from Nantucket (talk) 17:23, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for popping into the AfD. On another (now closed matter) would you mind looking at this closed AfD? I'm still scratching my head over this. The close was not well thought out (much less explained). For those doing a Google hit count and nothing else, well I can see why they would vote that way, but that's still poor rationale. And the most risable keep !vote? That goes to one of our very own Arbcom members, for claiming a web forum
