RE: About userboxes
[edit]When you put a userbox in your info page, it automatically lists a category at the bottom. I made a userbox and a category for that userbox. When I put that userbox in my userinfo, it does not automatically list the category I made for it at the bottom. How do you make a userbox automatically list a category at the bottom? va_girl2468 (User talk:va_girl2468) 11:43, 28 January 2006
- Hello! To add a category to a userbox, add
<includeonly></includeonly>
- Make sure you type includeonly, or else the rest of the code will pop up on your page along with the userbox. PAGENAME adds the name of the user to the list of people in the category.
- Here are some examples (from Pepsi and non-fiction)
<div style="float: left; border:solid blue 1px; margin: 1px;"> {| cellspacing="0" style="width: 238px; background: white;" | style="width: 45px; height: 45px; background: blue; text-align: center; font-size: {{{5|{14}}}}pt; color: {black};" | P | style="font-size: {8}pt; padding: 4pt; line-height: 1.25em; color: {black};" | This user drinks Pepsi.<includeonly></includeonly> |}</div>
<div style="float: left; border:solid {} 1px; margin: 1px;"> {| cellspacing="0" style="width: 238px; background: {};" | style="width: 45px; height: 45px; background: {}; text-align: center; font-size: {{{5|{14}}}}pt; color: {black};" | {} | style="font-size: 8pt; padding: 4pt; line-height: 1.25em; color: #000;" | This user enjoys reading non-fiction. |}</div>
- Hope that helps. If you need more help, let me know:) --Think Fast 17:20, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Page Blanking
[edit]On 29-Jan, you blanked Tanya McQueen. Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. I've reverted it to the previous version. If this was the result of a broken edit, you may wish to make the correct edits. If you believe the page should be deleted, please follow the deletion procedures. West end
[edit]The west end is kind of an anomaly since there is no governing board, so its boundaries are kind of folk classification. Back in the day, Franklin Street and the Fan District were considered "West End" At some point in the 1950s, local media had named it the fan district. In the same way, the area near libbie and grove is today considered by the old guard of RVA as "west end" even though it may not seem like that to you. My best guess is west of I-195 but that's my pov on it. MPS 20:07, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
...doesn't get his own article until he makes it to the final 12. This is based on past discussions on Wikipedia, which have concluded that being a semi-finalist alone just doesn't justify a separate article. Don't worry, he'll make it (he had a great performance this week), and then we can just roll back the redirect. Until then, please have patience... Postdlf 01:50, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:R1105122860.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:R1105122860.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: TemplateName
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator.

AI Template
[edit]It goes after external links, by the way. chantessy 21:49, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Imput:
Great template for the American Idol page. However, the template's not really necessary on an individual AI contestant's bio page. A link to American Idol when mentioned in the text is enough. The template is more about the show's history than the individual's.
American Idol is only a part of their history, needing no more prominence than any other tangent item discussed on their bio page. Otherwise, templates for any show (or whatever item mentioned in a bio) could be added to an individual bio page... cluttering the page.
Additional info for template:
AI albums missing on the template:
-American Idol Season 2: All-Time Classic American Love Songs
-American Idol Season 1 & 2: The Great Holiday Classics (released October 14, 2003)
-American Idol Season 1: American Idol Greatest Moments (released October 1, 2002)
65.138.42.56 00:54, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I see what you mean that the main AI pages will suffice, and it's not necessary for the individual contestant bio pages BUT it's also useful in uniting all the contestants, so they and their fans won't forget that it was AI that turned them from ordinary citizen to international superstar. American Idol is not your average TV show. chantessy 03:01, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Hey VA Gurrrl, I wanted to let you know that I have nominated Arlington County, Virginia as a candidate for US Collaboration of the Week. Image Tagging Image:Gilmore.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:Gilmore.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. cholmes75 (chit chat) 14:26, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Userboxes
[edit]Dear Va girl2468,
I am Acalamari, and I noticed that you have many userboxes on your page. Is there a site on Wikipedia where you can look at all the different userboxes? I only have one userbox, so I would be grateful if you could help me get more, please.
Sincerely,
Acalamari 16:37, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank You
[edit]Dear Va girl2468,
Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry you weren’t able to give me any advice, but at least you responded to my question. I contacted you because you have multiple userboxes.
I won’t be able to get my userboxes up immediately, but I promise you that you will get to see them soon.
One more thing, can you see my E-mail address now? I'd like to know because, since you responded to me using the talk pages, you should be able to see my E-mail address (hopefully!). If you can't then I've misunderstood something.
Anyway, thank you for your help.
Sincerely,

Okay, thanks for telling me. I'll have to go and re-read the preferences again. Obviously I made a mistake.

Clean up Needed On Saving Jane
[edit]I'm not asking about Userboxes this time. Instead, I need some help with an article. You say on your User page that you edit anything to do with actors, actresses, bands, Henrico County, Richmond, or Virginia, or almost everything. Well, the Saving Jane article was tagged for Cleanup, so I helped clean it. I done a few things, but not enough. It's an article that you helped write. Is there anything you can do to help clean the article? If not, don't worry. Acalamari 02:58, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- That's much better, thanks. I did some things, but as I said in the summaries, more work was needed. The article still needs some work, but I'll see if I can do a few things to help it. Acalamari 18:28, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:VA Beach seal.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:VA Beach seal.gif. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Itunes.PNG)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Itunes.PNG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Wtvz wb33 norfolk.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Wtvz wb33 norfolk.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Edit summary
[edit]When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:
The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.
Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.
It appears that you've only use the edit summary 7% for major edits and 9% for minor edits. Elle Bee 15:42, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, Va girl2468! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. Jamestown proposal to improve
[edit]There have been many comments the Jamestown, Virginia article being just too big. After giving it a lot of thought, I think we could break out a major part of it into a sub-article, perhaps entitled "History of Jamestown Settlement", essentially covering the 17th century period, ending when the capital moved to Williamsburg. As a WP admininsitrator, I have the tools to do this and preserve the talk page and history, etc., but I surely do not want to move on it unilaterally. This is an important piece of WikiProject Virginia. Can we have some comments about this approach, please?
I would appreciate replies to be posted on this page: Talk:Jamestown, Virginia Thanks, Mark in Historic Triangle of Virginia Vaoverland 16:20, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:B000N60HD6.01. SS500 SCLZZZZZZZ V45789859 .jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:B000N60HD6.01. SS500 SCLZZZZZZZ V45789859 .jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 21:29, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:705212888_l.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:705212888_l.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 12:31, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
