[edit]Hello, I am happy to have you as a mentor here.
Please I wish to create a page for our University?
Thanks --Marvinno47 (talk) 19:29, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Marvinno47, Hello, I would suggest looking through WP:YFA for instructions on how to write your first article. Zoozaz1 (talk) 22:53, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Alright. Thank you so much. Marvinno47 (talk) 09:40, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
Question from Marvinno47 on Wikipedia:IRC help disclaimer (10:34, 13 July 2024)
[edit]Hello Justiyaya,
Hope you're doing great.
I recently submitted an article that was rejected with this message:
"This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources."
I've since added more citations and references. Could you review my updates before my next submission to avoid risking page deletion?
Thank you! --Marvinno47 (talk) 10:34, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- Marvinno47, I would suggest adding some more wp:Secondary sources (the Guardian article is a good example of a good source) - another issue I would flag is that it seems a bit un-encyclopedic how much you praise Mama Pia, so maybe make the tone a bit more neutral sounding. If you don't have reliable sources for some of the more biographical information on Mama Pia, you might have to keep some of that out. Zoozaz1 (talk) 20:44, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response and advice. I have revised the content regarding Mam Pia and included an additional reliable secondary source. I will continue to seek out and add more references as they become available.
- Could you please review the updated submission to determine if it is ready for resubmission at this stage?
- Thank you for your assistance. Marvinno47 (talk) 08:25, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- Marvinno47, You can resubmit it now, but I personally would suggest adding some more sources like the Guardian article - namely sources that are secondary and reliable but also have some more significant coverage and in-depth analysis of the university (this is to prove notability, which I suspect might be another issue). I would also suggest working on the tone - remember this is an encylopedia, so everything should be very dry-sounding - "bringing smiles" is one example of what should probably be deleted (there are some others too), it's a bit of descriptive detail that adds color but not really any encylopedic value. Zoozaz1 (talk) 18:22, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- I have found and added three additional secondary and reliable sources, similar to the Guardian article you mentioned. Additionally, I have followed your advice on making the content more neutral by further toning down the exciting aspects of the Mama Pia story. I believe the revised submission is now suitable for resubmission.
- Thank you very much for your support. Marvinno47 (talk) 22:18, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- hank you so much for your previous guidance on my Wikipedia draft submission for Peaceland University. Based on your suggestions, I have made several revisions to ensure the content aligns with Wikipedia’s standards. I have added more secondary and reliable sources, akin to the Guardian article, and worked on the tone to make it more encyclopedic by removing subjective phrases and descriptive details.
- I am reaching out to request your assistance in completing the draft and getting it approved. Your expertise would be invaluable in ensuring that the submission meets all Wikipedia requirements, particularly in proving the notability of the university.
- Please let me know if you can assist me further and if there would be any associated fees for your support.
- Thank you once again for your support and guidance Marvinno47 (talk) 15:18, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- Marvinno47, I think the article should be fine - notability as I mentioned above still may possibly be an issue, so do your best on finding more sources like those news articles (perhaps books?) but this is an improvement and there is a better chance of it being approved, though of course I can't guarantee anything. One last thing - Wikipedia is a volunteer project, so no need for any payments, but it does mean that if you are paid by the university or employed by the university you must declare this on your userpage. Simply add {{paid|employer=name of employer}} to your userpage if this is the case - you can still draft articles, you just have to declare your affiliation. Zoozaz1 (talk) 22:00, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from Cyrusriver (20:53, 29 July 2024)
[edit]ive started reading wikipedia every day. There aren't too many instances where I notice that things can be written, less ambiguously, for example, but get this! Chatgpt rewrites things pretty well, and when I made an edit with chatgpt, it got reviewed and applied. It feels like I'm not the one editing the page. do you think that this is worth continuing? --Cyrusriver (talk) 20:53, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- Template:Cyrusriver , Be very, very careful when doing this, and make sure to say you are using chatgpt in your edit summary. Also make sure you're 100% certain that any ambiguities you find are resolved correctly by chatgpt, and just always closely review whatever chatgpt is saying. Definitely don't write any new articles using it. Zoozaz1 (talk) 03:55, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

Community Configuration
[edit]The Growth team released Community Configuration at all Wikipedias. You can access it at Special:CommunityConfiguration
.
This new special page replaces Special:EditGrowthConfig
. For now, all Growth features can be configured using Community Configuration. Configuration for AutoModerator (T365046) and other features will be available in the future.
You can help with translations. The interface translation is done at Translatewiki.net. You can also help translate the documentation.

Current work
[edit]Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module
We will add a new Community Configurable module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version available to beta wikis. We will conduct an A/B test at our pilot wikis using the new Metrics Platform. We still welcome community feedback on initial designs and plans, in any language at our project talk page.
Future work
[edit]Increase constructive activation on mobile
As part of the Growth team 2024/2025 Annual Plan, the Growth team will explore various ways to increase the percentage of newcomers who successfully start editing.
Editing a Wikipedia page requires too much context and patience. It means many trial and error for newcomers to contribute, meaning a steeper learning curve and potential discouraging reverts. To support a new generation of volunteers, we will increase the number and availability of smaller, structured, and more task-specific editing workflows (E.g. Edit Check and Structured Tasks). The Growth team will primarily focus on Structured Tasks, while working closely with the Editing team to ensure our work integrates well with Edit Check.
Stay informed
