Virje is a village and a municipality in the Koprivnica–Križevci County in Croatia.
Population
[edit]In the 2011 census, there were 4,587 inhabitants in the area, in the following settlements:[3]
- Donje Zdjelice, population 74
- Hampovica, population 268
- Miholjanec, population 295
- Rakitnica, population 136
- Šemovci, population 512
- Virje, population 3,302
In the same census, Croats formed an absolute majority.[4]
History
[edit]St. Martin of Tours is the patron saint of this municipality.
In the late 19th century and early 20th century, Virje was part of the Bjelovar-Križevci County of the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia.
