Hello, Chqaz! Welcome to Japanese Wikipedia. If you are not a Japanese speaker, you can ask a question in Help. Enjoy! ウィキペディアの機能や使い方に関してわからないことがあったら利用案内で質問できます。 Chqazさんがウィキペディアにおいて実り多き執筆・活動をなされることを楽しみにしております。
Hi Chqaz! Thank you for posting about Automoderator. I see that there are some questions in the discussion which I would be happy to answer. How do you think it would be best for me to respond? I can read the questions with Google Translate and could write responses in English directly, or you could translate my responses. I could also work with JNakayama-WMF if you don't have the time. I'm happy to do whatever you think is best! Thanks again.--Samwalton9 (WMF)(会話) 2023年10月5日 (木) 11:17 (UTC)[返信]
@Chqaz That would be great - thank you! Amayus had some questions, and I can read most of them, but I wonder if you could help me understand question 6? Are they asking whether the bot will censor content which the community would otherwise not revert?--Samwalton9 (WMF)(会話) 2023年10月10日 (火) 10:09 (UTC)[返信]
That is generally correct. They thinks maybe AI is revoking content that is offensive to those allowed in the community, thereby violating WP:CENSOR(enwp).--Chqaz(会話) 2023年10月10日 (火) 23:35 (UTC)[返信]
Thanks. Here are my answers and input to the questions:
Automoderator will work on all language Wikipedias, so it is compatible with Japanese.
We will be building Automoderator to be configurable by each community, so the Japanese Wikipedia can set it to have a low false positive rate. This will just mean that it also reverts less bad edits overall.
We will allow customisation of how the tool works, and when false positives are reverted we plan to use this data to train the model, to improve it over time.
We do not currently plan to give Automoderator administrator privileges, but this is something we will consider for the future.
We have thought a lot about whether Automoderator should prevent the edit from happening before it is saved, or revert the edit afterwards. We decided to start with reverting because it is easier to implement, and we think it leads to more transparency for the community to easily see what the software is doing. With AbuseFilter, you have to go and look at a different log, as the decisions aren't visible in the page history.
Automoderator will not consider the text of an edit directly, so we do not think it will censor content.
We did some data analysis about anti-vandalism bots (T341857) and found that volunteer bots on other projects are responsible for approximately 5-15% of all edit reverts (this includes reverts which are not addressing vandalism).
We don't want Automoderator to increase the amount of time and effort required of patrollers - it will be a failure if this is the case. We want this to save you time, so we will be monitoring data and speaking to communities to learn if this is the case.--Samwalton9 (WMF)(会話) 2023年10月12日 (木) 12:00 (UTC)[返信]
Hi Chqaz. I just wanted to let you know that we have posted an update about testing Automoderator. Users can now test the decisions Automoderator will make on past edits. I've included a dataset for ja.wiki since there are interested community members here. Do you think you could share this? Thank you again for your help.--Samwalton9 (WMF)(会話) 2023年10月24日 (火) 11:05 (UTC)[返信]
