Ajvar (Cyrillic script: Ajвар) is a type of condiment made from bell peppers and sometimes tomatos. Some households may use different recepies and add their own traditional kick to it. It is popular in the Balkans. Some are spicy some are not, it all depends on the way people like it. It is also a bread spread. It can be used in a wide variety of meals. You can use it as a bread spread and top it with some cheese. You can use it as a side dish for a bigger meal. It goes well with pretty much anything but it pairs the best with barbecue, more specifically Leskovački roštilj. All in all a great food all around.

It originates from Serbia, from where it spread to other Balkan countries after World War 2 .

The most famous ajvar is Leskovački ajvar, from city of Leskovac, Serbia.
